I fucking love black moth. Saw tobacco a couple of weeks ago by the way. Amazing show... my mates and i are taking a road trip up to vermont to see him this weekend too!

when and where in vermont? also where are you in new england if you dont mind me asking?

I'm from good ol' Worcester, MA... Pretty much the rotten core of the state But I'm actually leaving from Dartmouth, MA, which is south of cape cod... So i'm looking at about a 5 hour drive!
The show is at middlebury college, which is close to the boarder of NY. It's this friday and I think it starts at around 8 or 9 and... ITS FREE! there are going to be a few opening acts, so I don't think you will have to worry about getting there too early. theres info about the show on his myspace.

if it's anything like the last time i saw tobax, it will be him and seven fields up there together at the boards, twiddling nobs and stuff. they had the footage from fucked up friends playing behind them. they also played drippy eye from dandelion gum. it was an awesome dance party! One of the best shows i've been too actually, better than the time i saw black moth, to be honest.

Everyone seems to like this one more than Dandelion Gum, but I beg to differ. In most places it's too much of the same, imho. Twin of Myself is still the greatest track - the melody keeps on sticking in my head.

I have to agree with you. It does not top any of their previous work. And Twin of Myself is pretty much THE track on this album.
Having said that, I will still buy it when it's officially out. Always nice to hear a new BMSR.

i still LOVE start a people. dandelion gum is a perfect 10 though. eating us has flaws that only a majorly produced album can have. the production value is pretty shiny and clean compared to their older (and better) stuff.

that isnt to say that the songs on the album arent some of the best they've ever written. im hoping that getting this on vinyl will soften the david fridmann sheen a little bit for me.

haha thats crazy man! a good friend of mine goes to clark and my grandparents live in the cape. i also have a friend or two that goes to middlebury but unfortunately i cant make the friday show as im playing a gig here in maine. damn...

my sister goes to clark. it looks like a really cool place. I might be taking a class there over the summer too. Good luck at your show! Bummer you cant make it, but playing your own show is just as cool, if not cooler.

Alright, now that this has officially been released, I've had a chance to listen a few times. My general impression is that this is a much more band-oriented album than previous BMSR material. The signature elements are still there, but the composition and recording process definitely seems more traditional. Also, though this is the first "hi-fi" BMSR record, I personally prefer a more home-brewed sound....the occasional naive weirdness as part of the allure. The production here actually sounds somewhat muddy and busy. Overall, it's definitely an enjoyable album though.

They were awesome live, too (though it was hard to see Tobacco on the floor). It was great to see a few of these tracks performed live before hearing them on the album...makes for a better experience.

Tip for future BMSR material: TWO vocoders, bitches. Try it.

yo evan help me out here - do you think BMSR are 'darker' than before? i admit it could be just because this was my first show, but i felt the 'horror' element was really prevalent. maybe it's just the new record. all i know is my experience of BMSR until now has been about 90% sunshine, cotton candy and jelly beans, 10% bad LSD trips - and i know that element totally had its place in the aesthetic of the music. But i feel like the show was about 70% scary bad trips or more. maybe i'm fudging the numbers. But you get the idea.

Yeah, I think that assessment is spot on. Definitely seems intentional on the band's/Tobacco's part. The album art is just black and white, whereas the last was extremely colorful. Lyrics are usually about sunshine and flowers...and, well, bubblegum, whereas the new album opens up with lyrics essentially about the opposite (Born on the Day the Sun Didn't Rise).

It's more like an outward aesthetic change than anything, though. I don't think the album feels particularly dark nor even really that trippy....but maybe I've just been permanently spoiled by Geogaddi.
