Honestly, I think technology has outmoded our myths. The arc was absurd amidst this technical masterwork. Standard flailing, killing etc.. Otherwise, I couldn't believe what I was seeing most of the time (3-D). I applaud the craftsmen.

I brashly consumed a bottle of extra-strength cough syrup 18 minutes before the program. During the previews I was reeling around the lobby attempting to purchase popcorn. Avatar!

Things started to get hairy when he lit the resinated torch. The Avatars were clearly speaking to me.

I actually thought the story was decent, yes overdone but not really quite like this.
The visuals don't really need to be spoken about.

i saw avatar in IMAX last night. I highly recommend it, even to people who have already seen it in 3d. the blurriness that existed in the standard resolution is gone. its pretty much pure visual perfection.

i dont know how to accurately state my opinion on this movie. i have always been generally anti-cgi. i think most of the time it ruins the movie. i always think of it as the easy way out of what could have been a creative solution to the problem. but in avatar, the cgi is the star of the film. and the movie cost 300 million dollars to make. do you really think they could afford to write a story that was more than generic? thats a huge gamble. they needed to come up with a story that was purely accessibly for everyone.

this isn't a hip indie film. this is one of the most expensive movies that will probably ever be made. the plot IS pandering. and there is a lot of action and a lot of explosions! but is it fun to look at? you bet! the characters are TOTALLY black and white. but do you care about them? surprisingly, yes! the bad guy is one of the best i've seen in a while! the only character i didn't like was that nerdy guy. that actor just sucked.

and for the record, in my opinion, district 9 was still a better movie. but it didn't do as well in theaters. when a movie costs 300 million, you need to make sure that everyone can get into it.

also, while i'm at it, fantastic mr. fox is the best movie i've seen in years. no CGI in that, all stop animation! absolute beauty! i loved it more than avatar, but guess what, it did terribly in the box office as well! go figure.

i recommend everyone shell out the 15 bucks it takes to see avatar in IMAX-3D. because once it's out of theaters, you have lost your chance to see it this way. it's not like you can rent the dvd and get what everyone was talking about. so just see it while it's still playing. its a fun movie!

passionately articulated, but i still think i'm just gonna save the 15 bucks and buy Mr Fox twice when it comes out on DVD. i'd rather -not- know what everyone's raving about. i'd rather in 30 years when people ask "oh man and remember avatar?" i can be like "no."

I can't bring myself to go see Battlefield Smurf. The trailers did nothing for me, the plot certainly doesn't. One for Lovefilm, maybe. Maybe.

agree. i don't seem to get the same cathartic pleasure other people are getting from watching a really cliched, ultra conventional 9th grade style dissertation on how humans are mean to "noble savages" (not a sensitive word, I know, but i'm using it in this context to mean the idea of native peoples as in every way better and more intelligent and more rightly-living than us horrible evil westerners with our automobiles).

not that i want to turn this thread into some awful ugly flamewar about The White Man Versus Brown People, i mean i know Avatar's plot is pretty much only there so that the visuals have something to stand on so there's no need to ream into it. it's just that i'm so tired of the collective consciousness of human kind being dominated by two equally stupid, hamfisted opinions regarding "western civilization" - either that it's evil and bad, and nature is great and anyone who wears a loincloth and carries a spear can do no wrong, or that the former position is wrong and that nuclear submarines and spaceships and ayn rand are the greatest things in the universe. i'm gonna hide my head under a sandbar until people start developing more nuanced, compassionate and intelligent views on the scenario, or, god willing, the scenario as we know it becomes re-shaped and a paradigm shift occurs such that we understand the relation totally differently and see how our previous conceptualization of civilization and peoples was a misconception.

I do not identify or agree with heavily medicated post-neurotic stop-animation boho forest creatures capering about to the Beach Boys, because we live in an age of anxiety, but I enjoyed it when Mr. Fox got those farmers good! All the critters cheered! I could relate to that! Revenge!

In defense of Turquoise 70.

I thought Fantastic MR. Fox was great. I have more respect for Stop Motion Animation and it's artists than CGI. Because someone actually took the time to physically make each puppet/figure, their clothes and the sets all with their own hands, I mean it is endless on how much they had to make. And the fact that it was just an awesome movie is a plus too.

Now I have not seen Avaturd, so I can't say what I think of it yet, but if I had to guess I would say Avatar is just another Hollywood blockbuster that will be forgotten in 10 years. It had some shitty actors in it too from the cast I saw. I heard good things about it though, so it's hard to gage.

Oh and I remember seeing the Trailers for Avatar in the Theater a while ago and I just remember laughing at how stupid and shitty it looked. Can someone help me on why this is supposed to look so good? I mean is it some new found next gen CGI? I don't get it. Because the previews don't do it for me.
