lol. i didn't mean like that. i'm just kinda touchy about gore and visceral imagery, I'd prefer to know before I stumble across some.

I seem to recall reading that the effect was made by filling a balloon with dog food which was died-red, the balloon was then shot at and filmed in slow motion

Right, because in this kind of industry climate Warp would totally sit on a guaranteed money maker like a new Boards album for two years.

I agree with this. I can't see any record company holding back something this big for self-promotion purposes. I don't follow all of Warp's releases, so does anyone know if they suspended release of other albums while they promoted their 20 year stuff? "Outside of the band's control" could be any number of things (possibly if there's a box set/compilation album in the works, perhaps there are copyright issues?). I just wish they'd make good on their word and release it already if it's all ready to go (hello, it's already almost March and no definite release date?). The silence is deafening.

Warp have done that before. They spread the big releases througout the year.. so, considering that Autechre is going to be released in March I personally don't think a new BoC will be release before June. My bet is that the release of the huge Warp20 project and the new Ae, delayed the album.

The new Autechre could have been released later. Why did they have to release it now? Quaristice has only been released two years ago, whilst it has been ages for a full boc album.

Warp could have held the new AE in the shelves till a couple of months after the boc album has been announced; but they didn't. There must be a reason. Like MDG said, a reason outwith the band's control. The Warp20 event on the other hand is a viable reason.

autechre's music fits well in the ass-end of winter. BoC is better suited for summer. Perhaps after Flying Lotus, guys!

But yeah, my bets are on a June / July release, like I've stated before. That would, most likely, require an announcement in April / May. I count two months in advance for the announcement to be made.

I think the reason that the new album is late coming out is quite obvious. It's been staring us all in the face. What is happening is that BOC are building a new reel to reel for the last stage of the mastering. The reel to reel is made out of crackers (which are quite dry and brittle, making them difficult to work with), and the tape head is made out of cheese (which obviously melts when it gets hot, so you only have one chance to get the master down). Because BOC are purists, they are not buying crackers from a shop, oh no, they are making them from scratch, by hand. Respect to them for that. Also, they are making their own cheese; it is a mature Scottish cheddar, and the process can't be rushed, or you end up with a young tasting cheese, which will NOT DO for savoury reel to reel construction (and I'm sure we've all made THAT mistake in our previous experiments, I know I have).
I expect too, that BOC will be deploying the 'magic antler' method of compression, which involves wearing a tailor made stag suit with brightly coloured antlers, and trampolining upon the finished master. Then, at midnight, the antlers turn into a pink 'my little pony', which you MUST ride like a racing jockey to a small Mexican farm which specializes in growing organic nachos hydroponically (of course - it wouldn't make sense otherwise, would it?). If you are either a minute late, or early upon arriving at the Mexican farm, the natives will throw rice crispies at you, and your finished master will immediately turn into the theme tune to the Six Million Dollar Man played on gazoos. Can you imagine the shame of returning to your studio, covered in rice crispies riding on a shitty little pink plastic horse with a man-made fibre mane only to present a bad redux of the Six Million Dollar Man theme played on inappropriate instruments to the record company? How can anyone be blamed for avoiding such a situation? If the album hasn't come out by next year, I will write an even dafter post than this to keep us all going!

Where does Plaid's new album fit? Only Warp knows... Plaid's album was finished the other year so why isn't that one released already?
I guess they will be released like 3 months after each other and depending on the style it might be in summer or late summer.

Warp would NEVER hold Boards Of Canada back. BOC are easily one of the biggest acts right now on Warp, larger than AE, why would Warp hold them back?! When BOC are ready, Warp are ready.

Personally I'd use oatcakes to give a more nostalgic sound to it, but then again I shouldn't question BoC, they seem to know what they're doing when it comes to edible electronic equipment.

Anyway, good point about BoC being Warp's biggest act, seeing that Aphex isn't really making albums any more. As Steve Beckett says, 'they work in different time to us', and I can guess that since BoC didn't have much to do with Warp20 apart from Seven Forty Seven (correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know much on this), they have been working on this album non-stop, when they aren't looking after children, etc.

warp's so huge these days. they're probably willing to give boc as long as they need. if anything, they see the wait as building hype. which it totally is. if i were in their position, i'd be in no rush at all.

and yeah, what about plaid? what about bola? what about aphex? all these people have spoken of alums. maybe one day we will hear them.
