And in my opinion, if someone is enjoying electronic music, it'll be easier for him/her to accept more music gernes. Why? Because electronic music usually merged with other music sytles. if you're fond of heavy riffs/beats in Prodigy and Chemical Brothers then Metalcore may not be hard for you to listen to; if you love the sound of St.Germain and soon you'll fall in love with jazz; if you are eager for more ambient/melodic sound from BoC/Tycho/Ochre, you may want to try some post-rock or neo classical stuff. On the contrary, reverse this process may be difficult for many people: it's hard to imagine a person pogoing in a punk live show will enjoy any BoC's music.

I find people who are really into stoner rock dont mind listening to ambient electronic. As long as it's ambient like old autechre, christ or boc and not brian eno or biosphere ambient. They may not get into it heavily but they can dig it in the moment.

That is funny because I love stoner rock (Kyuss, QOSA, Clutch, Russian Circles, Pelican, etc.). At the same time I can get into "Confield," "Metamorphic Reproduction Miracle," or "No Pussyfooting" as much as anyone. On top of this, I love Death Metal and punk rock (Ramones, Bad Brains, Fugazi, Minor Threat, The Crass, Melt-Banana, Circle Jerks, etc.) and go to lots of punk rock shows (Sorry Geogaddi). I really do not think it is music dependent. It is all a matter of how fearless, open-minded, and free of pretentions you are.

ive played some BOC songs in my friend's car twice; he just said it was interesting but my other friend thought it was epic. its like they forgot about it the next day tho. right now i'm attempting to get my music appreciation teacher into BOC. i'm giving a copy of geogaddi to him.

I'll play BoC in all of my friends vehicles and they will say it's nice and all, but most people want music with lyrics. So my buddy Ken loves the Broken Drum remix cuz there are lyrics. On a side note I got him into Aphex Twin's Windowlicker. He loves it. My other friends like BoC but they would never put it on by themselves. My sister actually says BoC songs are scary lol.

So yeah, people in general are just apathetic towards not just BoC, but IDM and electronica all together. I kinda wish they weren't because it's so enjoyable that everyone should hear and appreciate it, but at the same time I'm a little glad they are. I like being just a little bit more weird than the average person. To have a more unique taste in life. I dunno, I'm just rambling while high on Gabapentin.

There has not been an instrumental in the top 10 in decades. It will not likely happen again (unless there is one from a pop movie).

It seems as though people rely heavily on lyrics to relate to music. They need to be told what to think and how to feel: I am angry, I am sassy, I am horny, my girl left me, I got your girl, you got my girl, I got more than you, I am better than you, I get more women than you, I hate xxxxx, you broke my heart, I am not going to let you break my heart, I am not going to let anyone break my heart, I love you, I like to dance, Dance like this, I can't stop dancing, my ass hurts, let's all get along, spread some love, racism is bad, rascism is good, I love mythology, mythology is real, mythology makes me feel good, I was lost and mythology saved me, etc.

I hate sounding like a hipster-fagola but I really blame the industry for ruining the true soul of music with pop music or most mainstream music for that matter. Whenever I hear a rap or poppy techno sounding song with lyrics embedded all over it it makes me pissed as most of them write shit lyrics and use generic background beats, Fuck your lyrics and give me some badass guitar solos! Show some real skill!

My overall response to the industry -

PS: Rap used to be good but is now on life support (IMO) by people like Eminem and Psyche Origami, the only rap artists that can actually make a good song nowadays.

It was actualy through my circle of friends at the time I discovered BoC

We kind of don't talk much now as I have moved away :/

Getting people to dig the old bluesmen ike Robert Johnson and Leadbelly is nigh on impossible in uni.

I have gotten quite a few people to listen, 1 to regularly indulge, and 2 that are now almost as hard-core into BoC, as me. I'm really glad, because since the 2 and I started really hanging out in the past few years, we've developed so many memories set to the soundtrack of BoC. Cruising around town and smoking pot with our Japanese exchange student buddies and exploring nights on psychedelics...

Boards of Canada gave me an unforgettable ride, and brought me and friends closer together.

Oh yeah, one of those Japanese guys got really into BoC, too, and he took his refined tastes back to Japan, to share.

All of my college roomates are now total BoC heads, as well as a good deal of my childhood friends. Love turning people onto them, because it opens their eyes (err....ears?) to not just BoC, but ALL of electronic music.

Once people get into BoC (or Aphex or Ae or whoever) they are much more receptive to all electronic stuff. The aforementioned people I got into BoC also now like various combinations of techno, dubstep, ambient, chillout, trance, etc. So yes, spread the word

Yes, I've managed to get a few people into BoC: my wife and kids!

In the car the other weekend my two youngest were grooving to MHTRTC, particularly Olson, Kaini Industries, ROYGBIV and Aquarius.

And my oldest recognised Olson when I was mucking around on the piano.
