okay, i think the idea of having a sticky catch-all moan thread is fine if the others get deleted. that benefits those of us who get agitated seeing them pop up all over the place. what do others think?

Anyone on here remember that guy from amsterdame or somewhere that was a member on here up untill 2004/5 or so and 'killed' himself and we all beleived it happened and turned out he was pulling all our legs? What was his name again MDG?

that was D4verD4nn, then he deleted that name and reregistered by another name, which i cant remember. that guy was the biggest flamer of all time. Some sort of update would be nice, but I'm almost beyond caring at this point. On a tangent I listened to Twoism yesterday.

Don't forget that that fucking guy fudged a bunch of members out of their hard earned cash right when we were getting the first One On Twoism comp going. If you're implying that MDG is D4verD4nn, I think you're wrong. That guy had a couple cues in his grammar that instantly gave him away and MDG doesn't.

Didn't he say that there would be black BoC shirts coming, only to have them appear on the website soon after? Fredd-E also verified his email address as belonging to hexagonsun.com.

On topic though, I believe there should definitely be a sticky to hold all of the banter about a new album. The talk is inevitably going to happen as this is a BoC forum, so why not keep it all in one place?

Just make the thread. At worst it will just end up being another bullshit thread in a *subforum full of them, which is no different to the current situation.

To be honest, I wouldn't even go as far as to say that the forum is being "ruined" or anything. A couple of threads pop up with angry users every once and a while, but it's nowhere near a big deal.

Not that I would, but I don't see the big problem with a couple of people complaining every once in a while, some people just want answers that they're not getting and are going out of their way to try to get them. I'd hardly say it's an issue.

True, but insulting MDG when they don't even know him is respectless. That's the thing I'm getting kind of irritated about, I don't really care about the speculation topics (even though there are way to much of em, so 1 sticky topic is a good solution), but people flaming MDG like that. Fredd-E made a well respected Wiki about Boards of Canada which people all over the world check, he wouldn't just accept somebody as an Admin/Hexagon Sun official if it weren't true. Show respect to the man who gives us information now and then. And as much people say on here '' I don't care about a new boc album '' , but then they flame mdg for not telling anything. Just quit the bullcrap, let MDG be, when there is news he'll tell us, or we'll hear it from Warp.

And on a side note, I'm surprised that the admins haven't deleted some of the threads that really have been repeated considering how many BoC speculation threads there have been over this past year.

I think the idea of one stickied thread is excellent, and would suggest you title it something like "Frustrated about the wait? Vent here!" to channel the newcomers towards that space.

Some of you may have the perfect temperament in this matter. That's wonderful, pat yourself on the back. However I think its rather ridiculous to then go condescending and judging others for having a different emotional palette than yourself. We all deal with the world in our own and varied ways and I think that the creation of a sanctioned venting thread would be a large step towards respecting that fact, rather than continually trying to shut people up. In my experience of the world letting someone express their emotion is a much more powerful tool than trying to clamp down on it and letting it boil inside to a higher degree. This has become one of if not the main place for dedicated fans to discuss BoC on the internet so a variety of affects and opinions is something to be expected.

I don't know that I would anticipate it, but it would be nice if the leaders of this site manned up and took some ownership about the 'MDG' presence. You sanctioned this internet personality and claimed to validate it = you fed the rumor mill. After three years it's turned out to be much smoke but no fire. In a very real sense you abetted the undercurrent of frustration that is manifesting itself, and I would encourage you to take some responsibility for that fact.

i'd be insulted if i were part of any of the three and read this board lately.

i can't speak for the mods here, but i'm willing to bet that they are well aware of this. they don't need to take any responsibility. welcome to the internet. rumor mills are par for the course. they had enough trust in the guy to make him a moderator on a reasonably active internet community, and if a few things he said have fallen through, so what? that's not the moderators' fault, they don't owe anyone an apology. they didn't stoke the frustration. people get frustrated of their own accord.

MDG is an insider source whom we are absolutely fucking lucky to have around.

Exactly. This is where my negative feelings are coming from - I don't mind people speculating at all, why on earth would I? I don't mind that threads repeat themselves, all that is is amusing at the very worst.

What bothers me, what really pisses me off, is people showing disrespect to Aesthetics and Fredd-E by way of railing against them and MDG, calling MDG a fake and playing 9/11 Truth with the mods. Then you're going from being frustrated and being upset (which are fine, normal parts of life) to being disrespectful and ungrateful towards people who have from the very beginning wanted nothing more than to execute a forum for people like us to discuss this frigging music, and through the quality of their character and administration happened to have made it one of the most solid and singular forums I've ever visited on the internet. This place is like no other, it's a veritable haven on such a shithole as the internet.

Sometimes I get a little proprietary about that, if only because I have literally never encountered a forum online (and I'm a BIGTIME forum geek, I've been on tons) that's as good as this one in terms of its community and its administration. What bothers me about the recent rash of "I'm angry!" threads and posts is that the people who are championing them are completely throwing that respectful and considerate air that makes this place great, into the wind, and attacking the last people on earth that they should be.

Your frustration is YOURS. Your expectations are YOURS. Nobody tricked you, nobody baited you except yourself - the responsibility that needs taking here belongs to YOU. The moderators here are doing their damndest to maintain not only the peace here, but the freedom to say the selfish inflammatory shit you insist is important for the rest of us to hear, and the connection between this MDG person who, if he is who he says he is (and honestly, when you deny that as fervently and as insultingly as you have chosen to, you're basically telling the mods they're either A) fork-tongued hateful liars or B) head-scratching imbeciles) has been given absolutely NO reason to stick around and offer his input on anything whatsoever. If he's flown the coop, I perfectly understand why.

Yup, great post T70. I think you said exactly what some of us were trying to say all along. And also thanks to all the mods for putting up with all this shit. It could very easily have been handled the wrong way.

Would it be foolish to suggest locking all the speculation threads now and drawing a line under all this?

I've said it before but I'll say it once again, I've got perfectly valid reasons to have made MDG a moderator on this board. Yes he predicted the black t-shirts in advance. Yes his e-mail address is from a valid authorized @hexagonsun.com domain. The former could be easy guessing work as black shirts are damn trivial, but the latter is not something one can easily fake. Not at all actually.

I've also had contact by mail with MDG and Warp to help them get the http://facebook.com/boardsofcanada url claimed to BoC instead of the dude who got it before. As a little gift of appreciation they also added my facebook.com/bocpages and bocpages.org itself to the official warp site and to their facebook.com/boardsofcanada page.

Trust me, MDG is as real as one can be. In his spare time he's occupied with the web presence of boc, I'm talking about the stuff like last.fm, facebook, twitter, their original site...

Here's something for all of you to consider: "what if they all have been silenced by Warp for the impending release". Silence before to the storm.
