no not at all man; it's just the wording, which can also be interpreted as someone contracting a disease. and tycho sounds a bit like typhus...it's probably just me and my geeky sense of humor

Well after giving Tycho a good listen, I have to say I'm not that impressed with his tracks. Dictaphone is probably his most interesting... but his web and print design is his strong suit. Looks like I didn't contract anything from exposure to Tycho... :roll:

Does anyone know his exact quote as far as him saying he isn't influenced by BOC? Because I bought Sunrise Projector and I wouldn't call him a BOC clone. Honestly I don't think he has it in him to be a BOC clone. His stuff is nice, but that might be as far as i'd go. There certainly isn't the complexity of BOC, his melodies are nice but not up to BOC's standards i'd say. I could see alot of influences in his stuff (Caribou, Minotaur Shock) and it's not all BOC. Perhaps he was trying to distance himself, because he didn't want to be lumped in that category. I'd almost go as far as saying it's too nice. So much of BOC's perfection is in the fact that they shoot for imperfection in their sounds, his sounds are sort of bland. Really what BOC are doing is far beyond what he is doing. Oh, and I can't remember who but someone was interested to know what the bitrate of the mp3 downloads from his site, they are vbr 218

I just want to say that Tycho's music is the underratted,,, he is gopd I think he should be number one in the charts!

Tycho is the best music for BOC except for REALY THING!!!

And to answer my own question regarding a Landau release.. There won't be another Landau release on Merck. Their new album will be released on the F-Communications label.

Wait a second, I don't mean to piss in everyone's Cheerios here, but...

Isn't an artist, Tycho or any one of you, allowed to admit or deny anything about what influences them? I mean, I understand the relations between BoC and Tycho, and I have since I first heard him 2 years ago, but I could really care less personally about what he wants to think about himself.

Music is music, it's good or it isn't. Given, there is alot of derivative stuff out there, and while Tycho borrows pretty heavily from one or two things, it's still solid pop music. I've heard a hell of alot more BoC fanatic musicians that sound way shittier on the melody and production ends.

Either way, all I'm saying here is that people should be allowed to say whatever they want about their own work and it shouldn't skew someone's view of it. If the guy thinks he's an innovative genius or if he thinks his music is shit, I could care less. Sound is relative to the listener!!!

I know this is probably the worst place to say this too, but I could even care less about what inspires BoC! No doubt they listened to stuff like Jean-Jacques Perrey and Walter/Wendy Carlos, and probably old funk and hip hop records as well, but that doesn't affect the way I hear the music, and it doesn't make them a ripoff any more than it makes me a Freescha ripoff or whatever.

I don't know. It just pisses me off when people let petty details about an artist's personal life alter the way they hear music. All the more reason to not have the internet I guess. Sorry if everyone hates me for writing this now.

Well what you say is true but I can see people's "anger" about this matter.. Tycho is obviously influenced by Boards of Canada:

* listen to his music and spot the resemblances
* look at his artwork
* look at the titles of his songs

It all resembles BoC so damn much.. but still he denied, in the past, being influenced by BoC.. come on that's just plain sad... credit where credit is due and in this case it's obviously BoC who deserves the credit and Tycho should be honest about it! That's all there really is to "hate" because obviously his tracks are cool (hating Tycho's music is hating BoC's music in some kind of way to be honest because the resemblance is enormous...)

BoC gave credit to MBV and The Incredible String Band and there are some parallels with their music...not a ton but they are there...and there is also parallels with their album artwork ...go look at fredd-e's site....

I agree with you Fred, he's obviously very into emulating the Scots, but what I meant was when did denying that influence (even as prevalent as it is) ever become a crime? So what if he wants to distance himself from it. Besides, you make it sound like he should give Mike & Marcus songwriting credit on his album!

And what's so funny and ironic about that is if he did, you guys would be eating it up, but he's not legit enough, right?

Sorry, I think everyone should just let the guy be. Obviously he has alot of musical plagiarism going on, but obviously he's got some potential if Merck wanted to pick him up before they closed up shop.

How is he lying about anything? If you go to my Myspace page or my website, I don't even say what my influences are. Would you take that as me denying I have them, in some elitist way?

I don't know why I'm even arguing about this. I like the guy's melodies, and his production is slick, but that's about it. He's not anywhere close to an influence or one of my favorite musicians. I still somehow feel it important to stick up for him though. After seeing the people on WATMM lambasting his music, and now this, it's really no surprise to me that the guy just wants to disconnect himself from all things BoC. Granted, he's doing a horrible job of it with his whole aesthetic (no pun intended there!) but I still feel bad for the guy.
