there are some good tutorials on youtube.. but I like Tom Cosm's the best (he does psytrance which isn't my thing but his knowledge of live is fantastic). Helped me get my head around some of the aspects I just wasn't getting.

quite a bit more than I have..

and the octatrack does seem very cool. I haven't done as much sampling as I would like or used the ones I have as much as I could have but it supposedly sounds great.

But really if I could have what I wanted without impediment

there are some great software tools for editing yamaha fm patches via midi. JSynthLib is an open source/cross-platform program that supports DX7 and TX81Z patch editing and library storage. might help when jumping between computers.

No, the way to handle it is to ignore it. If any of it makes sense then you'll discover that naturally or respond to it subconsciously. I personally need to make music with no concept of what it will be like or how it will be received. The only critic you should answer to is yourself.

Yeah! LSDJ is a tracker. The ROM file is pretty cheap ($2) from the website if you wanted to use an emulator. Nanoloop might be a better program to use if you're used to using sequencer interfaces, although LSDJ's tracker layout doesn't take long to get used to.
