This quote from the 2005 Remix Mag interview "Emotional Abuse" would suggest that at least one of the band has used LSD, wouldn't you say? It certainly sounds like direct experience to me.
I'm sure that BOC would make great music with or without such experiences, I don't think the use of mind altering chemicals of any type stimulates creativity in a person if that creativity isn't innately there in the first place. Case in point - Pete Doherty - crap before, during and after any drug use - QED!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Boards Of Canada do drugs. They might have stopped or at least slowed down (at least I hope they have) with Michael becoming a father, and things of that nature.


Anyways, I always have been curious as to if one member of the band focuses more on musical harmony, synths, etc. and if another maybe focuses more on drums, percussion, or production. Or is it truly even in every aspect.

Yeah, I was always curious how the composition balance goes also....oh to be a fly on the wall in BoC's or Autechre's studio....

I wasn't saying they didn't use drugs. I just think too often it's assumed.

I mean, it's pretty obvious that it has been/was/maybe (possibly) still is an inspiration for a lot of their work. I get that weird feeling listening to them sometimes that you mostly only feel while on a hallucinogen, the way it can change music. Does anyone else get that?


edit: I mean, in the way that almost every time I listen to BoC, I hear something I didn't hear the last time. STILL. After 3 years of listening to them non-stop. It's fucking insane how their music still does that.

I'd ask them what their favorite album is and who they're listening to at the moment also if there is a place they go to to get inspiration to write a song.

And there's nothing wrong with using drugs for inspiration, or anything for that matter. I think it's more about perceiving their music in your OWN way, which is what psychedelics do for people. It helps you to perceive life the way YOU want to perceive it.

Yes, I'm aware you weren't saying that they didn't, and I was pointing out that the reason it is often 'assumed' is perhaps because they talk about drug use in their interviews. So it isn't really an assumption if there is evidence, it's more of a conclusion.
