Sorry about the pun by the way, but I remain unswerving regarding my stance on Moby.
Also to the list of 'bewilderingly successful musical non-entities' could be:
Lady Gaga (why do people buy her records - why do radio-stations subject us to repeated torture
by playing her soulless plasti-pop?)
Tiny Tempah (Hip-Hop was invented in the 1980s, it was really good then! Now look what's
happened!)
Arctic Monkeys (When you have brilliant and original bands on Domino like Pram, why are these
guys hailed as anything other than a bad pub-rock band? Go figure....)
Oasis (we have a saying in England that you can't 'polish a turd'. Well, it didn't stop these guys
buffing away regardless of their superior mediocrity.)
Jay-Z (The only thing I can say about the performance at Glastonbury as well as everything else
he has done is "ding-dong spackaloid!")
Feel free to add some more if you are feeling as bitter as I am about not being able to make a living wage out of your own music whilst inscrutably empty piffle commands 7 figure earnings for the likes of the above mentioned!
Xurbatronic wrote:portiss wrote:I listened to his new album, you can stream it on his website, and it's really good.
Yes, I could listen to the stream directly from his website, I'm sure. I could also rub my naked eye with a bhut jolokia chilli pepper - I don't think I will though.
There is literally no reason to be this bitter about a guy who writes pretty music with piano and strings. (Well..
not always
) Calm the hell down.
But I guess it's harder to feel smugly superior about your musical taste when you're not looking for opportunities to make pointless attacks on things other people like, especially if you haven't even bothered listening to them.

I'm bitter about the music industry per se, not Moby specifically. Also, I don't need to 'calm down', I'm just expressing my opinion.

I have listened to Moby, so I'm not expressing an opinion about music I haven't bothered to listen to.
Neither do I feel smugly superior, taste is purely subjective, you are being presumptuous by claiming my 'attack' is pointless. Secondly, I felt my comments were seasoned with humour, whereas you have reported your opinion about Moby's 'pretty music with piano and strings' as fact, not opinion. You are the smug one, not me.

You came here specifically to bitch about an album you've said you have no plans to listen to. Okey doke.
Some of us like to actually discuss music here, rather than seeking to string together arbitrary insults about things we don't like in lieu of actually conveying any information.

You should get off your high horse mate. I've contributed plenty to this forum, and to Twoism, including solving problems with the last OOT release. I'm happy to discuss music, if you can't handle my comments, that's down to your filtering perceptions of my intent. I've told you I have listened to Moby before, and all of the other artists I mentioned. And I don't like their work, which is my stance and opinion.
Also, in many other posts I have conveyed information about sound engineering, and about specific
genres.

According to your attitude, I am only allowed to express a positive opinion about music you happen to like. That isn't a discussion, it is musical totalitarianism. I particularly take exception to the fact that you insist I came here to slate a particular album I don't intend to listen to, when I mentioned quite a few other artists in the original comment. If your musical sensibilities cannot bear any such diatribe, then I feel sorry for you. Also, I don't care if you respond and have to have the last word, because my musical sensibilities CAN definitely take it. That's my last word on this, say what you like. I suspect you didn't even read my post properly anyway, or chose to discard any measure within it so you could make your own vitriolic response, which you have done. I can live with that, no problem!

This is a thread about a new album. Based on your comment about jabbing a hot pepper into your eye rather than listening to it, it's not an assumption on my part to say that you did not listen to the album being discussed, and came here solely to threadshit.
Cool, but we're not in one of those threads right now. I'm talking about this one.
According to your attitude, I am only allowed to express a positive opinion about music you happen to like. That isn't a discussion, it is musical totalitarianism.
I said or implied no such thing. I haven't stepped on anyone's ability to debate the merits of the music, but you've shown no interest in doing so. It doesn't affect my life if you like or dislike something, but your attitude is comically overblown to the point where you're not actually getting any message across. It's not totalitarianism to suggest that if you want to discuss something, you might get farther if you can actually coherently inform us about your feelings on the music rather than rambling about how mad you are that people you don't like are making more money than you.

My favorite part of this is that you keep writing these elaborate, rambling rants while calling someone else a vitriolic totalitarian.

Whoa guys.
Xurb, I understand your sentiments man. In fact, if anything really deserves bitterness, it's humanity, and human nature, because that's the source of the nature of the music industry. It's not the music industry that really sucks, it's peoples' TASTE that sucks (subjectively, of course--most people would probably think that your and my taste sucks, you know, and who can really say they're wrong? (assuming your and my tastes are pretty similar).
And SL4TM, bitching is totally legal.

(Although concerning the guy himself, I don't think Moby seems like a bad fella at all)
So yeah... uhh... Moby's ok.

I listened to Destroyed the other day and while it wasn't great, it's not as bad as some his past few releases. In fact, I appreciated the fact that he is not going for a "Radio Friendly" sound this time around. The first track was actually pretty good.
Xurb- man you've got to calm down. You called Moby a "Moby Dick", but you don't say why you think that. Is it because he is a vegetarian? Because he is bald, or because he is an American? Or maybe because he, unlike you, has found a way to be successful in the music industry? I can think of a lot of music that is much worse than Moby. You mentioned Lady GaGa. There's a good starting point.
I stand by my view on Moby. I like his early output and I always will. I'm not gonna let your hatred spoil what I think was very good music. Sure, he's released a lot of crap over the years, but if you look closely you'll find a few hidden gems here and there. Or you can be a close-minded, jealous little baby about it. It's just whatever man.

Yeah, definitely. After the disappointment I had with Hotel, I didn't really pay much attention to what he was doing for a while, but this was pretty nice. Admittedly most of what I remember after one listen-through was occasionally thinking "oh, this part here reminds me of a better song he recorded 10 years ago," but I might give it another listen sometime and probably change my mind.

Yeah, Hotel was very boring. Like that track where they keep singing "I like it" "I like it a lot"

I knew that guy would have to have the last word, so be it.
I'll explain why I don't like Moby:
1. The music he makes is predictable, it's all in 4/4 timing, it doesn't move me at all.
2. I don't enjoy the commercial bombardment one receives via the media of artists such as himself
on the release a new album, Play has started to be promoted on rotation on quite a few English
radio stations to showcase the release which this thread is about.
3. It's my right as a human being to dislike / like whatever music I want. Why should I have to
explain myself to avert a personal attack of the like one would NEVER experience face to face?
The internet allows such cowardly behaviour as has been witnessed.
Thank you Saturday Index for defending my right to an opinion, I appreciate that. As for the other guy? Your replies continue to tell me all my motives for coming to this thread, which were as you ALMOST noticed for mainly comical effect (a bit late now though!) You don't know the first thing about me! On the grounds of this idiot, I wont be coming back here, but I will leave you with this quote:
"Talking about music is like dancing about architecture."
On that note, I'm off to make some more music, which I'm sure you won't be surprised to know is not in anyway influenced by Moby!
Goodbye.

Fuck you guys. I was going to pop in and post a measured, moderate, thoughtful opinion but fuck it, what's the point? I hate this thread, and honestly, sometimes, this forum. I just realized I haven't missed Twoism at ALL while I've been on the road these past few days. Coming back to this really gave me some good stuff to think about.
dorks.

I only said I wasn't coming back 'here' once. And I was referring to the Twoism forum completely, not just the thread! You didn't even understand that....I'm leaving this forum for good - because of people like you. Now you really can have the last word. I hope you enjoy it. See you never!

I like Lady Gaga.

I like Moby.
Does liking those two things make me a bad person?

Are you talking about me? Because I have no agenda to have the last word whatsoever. In fact I've only been glancing over the comments you've been making with little interest.
