Krautrock totally passed me by until around 2 or 3 weeks ago when the BBC showed an excellent documentary about it. So, as a n00b, where do I start?

Incidentally, this is just about the most beautiful thing I've heard in months.

I'm rather quite jealous, I'm running out of new Krautrock discoveries now and the whole genre has delivered a lot of joy! Some recommendations :- Can, Faust, Amon Duul, Ash Ra Tempel, Cluster, Harmonia (definitely check out if you're into Tangerine Dream), Neu!, Popol Vuh.

I think Tago Mago is my favourite krautrock album. It's sounds so raw yet the musicianship is impeccable, one minute it's chilled out and the next it's totally in your face - I love it!

I as well am a krautrock n00b. And yes Tangerine Dream - Ricochet 1/2 is also the most beautiful thing I've heard in a while. Thanks so much for reviving this thread.

This thread deserves bumping. I'm quite obsessed with this era. I can hear Popol Vuh's influence in a lot of BoC's stuff. The choral synths on RFTD remind me of the Aguirre soundtrack a lot.
