I can understand a lot of what has been said here. I think I mentioned when I joined that I don't usually get involved in forums like these - but on the occasions I used to drop in as a lurker non-member it seemed like a good bunch of people here on the whole, and I think that's still the case.
The other interesting factor was the relative quietude and the smaller community compared to some other forums round and about online. Sounds odd maybe, but I probably wouldn't have joined Twoism if it was packed to the rafters with members all adding to a ton of posts - I'd just be lost in the flow of incoming information - and I dare say things being quieter and maybe a bit more laid back suits me just nicely, so I don't view that as a negative
I see other bigger forums that face an influx of members, at certain times of the year they have to deal with what some might call the "kids", either posting inane stuff with deadly seriousness or generally littering the forums with garbage topics for the sake of it... There might be the odd pointless thread made here now and again, but it's not as bad as some and again I think that's an advantage of the modest activity here.
The 'weakest' area just now is the BoC forum, but it's not difficult to see why. There is nothing substantial to discuss, and arguably the most prone to poor topics because of it. I think to a certain degree it's understandable, you know.
However... You'd think the speculation thread was obsolete ages ago - it has actually given rise to some amusing stuff, be it posting ridiculous images, tongue-in-cheek comments and parodies of cover art, and generally going off on ridiculous tangents - those are the highlights, IMO! As I said when I joined, I'm not really one of the BoC die-hards (top tunes though, natch), so I'm more inclined to light and non-serious discussion, rather than continuous analysis during this radio silence
Last but certainly not least - there is a heck of a lot of excellent music kicking about from folks here. Proportionally compared to threads about non-member work as well, there is rarely a shortage of stuff incoming. The 'what you are working on now' thread is a fine example of having to be selective at times... Potentially many good ideas, a quick dip in to check out a few.
Similar to others, maybe I should comment more if I can... I remarked on OoT 5 recently (double commented when my first one got lost on the previous page, it seems) and have done so for a few individual works previously but memory is being shite as usual; Cupz and 747 Music spring to mind - and Dissolved posts here, I got to know his stuff thanks to Twoism. The standards are high here - we are talking "Bloody hell, this is brilliant" high. Subforum is certainly an idea.
But, 'wasteland'!? I get what is being said... Just that the use of the word conjures up images of some sort of deserted sector where the buildings have been reduced to rubble and the few remaining inhabitants are living off scraps from bins... I don't think we are there yet
let me just posit this: i have always posted my new stuff on forums, not because i need attention, but because i honestly think people will find it interesting and engage with it in some form. for many years i posted stuff on various radiohead forums. probably about a year i finally joined here and you have all been amazing and by far the most artful and supportive community of internet sirs & maams. amazing. i think i fall into the rut that many fall into of supporting but not directly communicating that. speaking for myself, i will try to be better.
