When I used to do dxm, I had a 'vision' that Mike and Marcus are some kind of sect that forces young people to do drugs in order to reach all the effort they put into music we love.
Now I understand that their music, clearly, is a great substitute for any drug and can make you high aswell without necessity of putting loads of dangerous chemicals into your body

It's a good combination, but i don't need the combination. It's amazing without drugs, but it's certainly a nice experience doing it while on something.

Did mushrooms for the first time in my life a few weeks ago--what an incredible experience!! We lay down near the gently crashing waves on the beach at Burying Hill, and the sound of the water was forever feedbacking downwards in pitch à la the sounds at the end of Ready Lets Go :)

Of course the occasional calls from the seagulls were mindblowing....

It's been a few years but there's nothing like hiking the more obscure trails at Letchworth with BoC in your ears and a head full of LSD. I think the Wolf Creek area is what encompasses the feel perfectly, but unfortunately it's one of the more touristy areas of the park aside from the gorge/falls areas - the feeling of isolation is a key component, plus who wants to deal with strangers in that condition?

I'd like to tell a story I think is somewhat interesting and appropriate about how I very first got into BoC and the total association with drug culture i'll always have with them (for better of for worse).

My brother is seven years older than me, and was in University during his drug experimentation phase while I was 12 years old. I'd never touched a cigarette and, on the whole, was a rather well behaved lad with no interest in any inebriates beyond sherbert. I used to visit him often, where i'd love taking in the obscure music, films and video games that his bohemian little lot enjoyed. I used to marvel seeing japanese cinema for the first time, or arthouse experimentation like Jan Svankmejer. Music from Warp amazed me, and the odd tines of Mahavishnu Orchestra VHS recordings from the Old Grey Whistle Test obsessed me. The smell of weed and the sound of patented "shotties" was just a part of it, and not one I found distasteful (even though it would be another 5 years before I put my first joint to my lips). I'll never forget hearing Geogaddi in its entirity for the first time in that environment. A sober, bewildered 12 year old surrounded by far "cooler" elders who created an air of utter acceptance and total camaraderie. Every single sound that Geogaddi made stunned me, and we sat in silence as we took it in and I watched over the stoned faces understanding some of what they were feeling from the intoxicating tones of the music. It didn't make me want to get high, it made me feel high. And from that moment, BoC became not only associated with drugs but in fact a drug all of their own. A free, legal and actively encouraged drug of infinite supply.

Five years later I started smoking weed heavily, and by that point BoC had become a firm favourite of mine. They were just releasing TCH at the time, it was an interesting period! I didn't need drugs to prove to me that BoC were important, and I didn't need to high to recognise they were one of the best artists of my generation. I certainly didn't need a toke to get that nostalgia for places never visited we're all so acutely aware of. This is no "you don't need drugs to enjoy BoC!" post though. This all leads to when I eventually did starting putting spliff to lip, and the incredible extra-dimension explosion I saw in their music. They were already deep, layered and textured beyond belief. When I started getting stoned though, I saw in them not just nostalgia for the past, but nostalgia for the future. I saw everything in their music, and I felt its true themes and expressions deeper than I ever had. The experience can only properly be compared to 2001's famous monolith. I genuinely, and often, feel like BoC's music (ESPECIALLY under the influence) has helped my mind take leaps it never would have taken without them. I actually feel evolved by them. And that's not an evolution that rises me above my peers, as equality amongst all men and women is the strongest tenant in my ideals. It's a personal evolution. I know that the thoughts I have now would never have occured to me without BoC's helping hand. My point is, I don't think I ever saw that hand before I started smoking weed. But while sober, I still subconsciously feel its grip.
