People might have a little more respect for your opinion if you cut all the passive agressive bullshit.meat like product wrote:This thread would go better if everyone was talking about the same thing.
Sorry I BELIEVE this thread would go better if everyone was talking about the same thing.
I don't want to sound peremptory.

When the frustration continues to build sometimes it's hard to be civil. And not that it matters but I was in fact joking in my last post. Sorry I forgot the smiley face. The Friendly Stranger wrote:People might have a little more respect for your opinion if you cut all the passive agressive bullshit.meat like product wrote:This thread would go better if everyone was talking about the same thing.

Regardless of whether you believe in Leibniz - whatever that means; i'm sure there's as much evidence for his existence as other people in his era - if you want to throw around language and hope it'll catch any sense of non-contradictory meaning, then the best thing to do is to explore the language and the nature of the concepts under discussion. If you're claiming that you don't believe that if two concepts are the same then they must share the same properties, well then that raises a number of doubts about the nature of the lexicon you're attempting to wield, and i'd recommend attempting to try and think that throughEarthbound wrote:I don't believe in LeibnizSnufkin wrote:Not according to Leibniz's law. As for 'This thread would go better if people were talking about the same thing', the best way to identify the primary nature of phenomena under investigation is to look... when I look at this thread, I see language. This thread is about language, the nature of concepts and their meaning and the lack of perspicuity in our control of language.

There is also some ancient book about him? That should be evidence enough I guess. I was raised with a Christian mother and an Islamic father. Don't ask me how that can happen, it's a bit of a long story but I have met others who were raised the same way.
Just like anything that has to do with politics, I stay away from anything that has to do with religion. To me its really nothing of importance for one's lifetime.
I do believe that there is some sort of higher power lurking everywhere though.

I stopped reading right there... Anyone who says that about themselves, well...dono wrote:Oh my.
Earth and Rik, I am glad there are some people here in favor PURE religious freedom.
Tek, this is sort of for you. I'm sorry to single you out like this, but your statement about "Christians being ignorant" or whatever you said stuck with me a little bit.
Bottom line is, if you think I am ignorant Tek, for being a Christian, then it seems you have a problem. Why? Because, you will be the one sitting there judging me for my beliefs, based on what you have previously experienced wether or not it is or is not the truth. And you will take your beliefs as fact, throwing my intelligence out the door without regard.... because I am a Christian. That goes beyond ignorant my friend.
How can you judge me without knowing who I am. You don't know what my life is like, what I do every day, what my job is, who my wife and family are. How can you put a blanket on my faith and call me ignorant for having faith in something that you cannot prove, or disprove?
I would search your heart man, because I guarantee you that you believe in things, and have faith in things that you cannot prove or disprove either. The evolution THEORY for example. I'm not judging you for that.
I'm just saying dude, you're young, you have a lot of growing up to do. I'm young too, most of us are, but everyone is in a different spot man.
Just in case you wanted to "get to know me" a little: I was raised in the church. I started supporting myself early on in highschool, I am extremely intelligent, I graduated highschool early and started working for a software programming company, and developing my own software packages, I then got in a little trouble with the law for hacking some state and govt servers, I then became a drug addict and went through a lot of bad stuff. I turned my life back around, I moved to colorado I met my wife, I continue to do software programming. My wife and I are looking to move soon. <-- Now that "you know me a little", maybe you wont judge me as an ignorant Christian without regard.

Hmm, i wouldn't say i'm religious, i find religion interesting though. My parents are both Christians, although i don't think they've ever gone to church on regular basis. They didn't see the need to baptize me and my sister. My dad claims to not be religious at all, although he prays for his dead parents everyday. I also find myself praying, when shit goes wrong (if family members/pets/friends become seriously ill).

I was raised by an Islamic father and Catholic mother. I'm happy to say that through my multicultural childhood, I've learned that labels and stark definitions rarely fit any one person. Everyone has their own religion, everyone has their own God.NewBattery wrote:I was raised with a Christian mother and an Islamic father. Religion is what you get when you take the original essence and try to turn it into a formula for self-salvation , which results in self righteousness and superiority.
I believe in the person of Jesus Christ , and hope in the unmerited favour of God.
I try my best to have a simple , unpretentious and authentic faith.
I haven't arrived , but i've left.

Religion is a bizarre thing. It's very ambiguous yet also hopelessly trapped in the mechanism of language and labels.
I think someone can genuinely believe in "God" without even having knowledge of him or any sort of ascribed faith. Or at least according to what religion was designed for originally. Nowadays I think for more people than not it's a hopeless abstract pile of nonsense and no one really knows WHAT they're believing in.
Me- I don't believe in god, that man up in the clouds pulling the strings. I think that's a very human projection onto the universe.
But that does not make me an atheist at all. I think the whole system of describing one's belief is completely fucked and broken. And we should abandon our models or fix them.
I think that beyond words all faiths are founded upon the very same principles but they are lost to blind and hopeless tradition that should be abandoned and thrown to the dying generations they were created from. That's where the confusion comes from.
Religion should not be blindly following a text and taking it literally- nor should it be a desperate attempt to discount anything and everything.

I believe that we are all humans on this planet earth with a different cosmic experience, each of us, and that anything external that claims to be the one and only truth is only the result of ego-ic energy. Everything is all, and all is one. Every set of human eyes is its own personal reflection of God... within whom all things are created and have their existence. That's about it.
