I was hoping to see some aurora here in the midwest but none last night.

Last night was probably the best opportunity this year so far to see the aurora.

The Sun unleashed an X-1 class flare a couple of days ago and last night the kp index went to 6, 5 ,7 at 1500 -1800, 1800-2100, and 2100 to 2359 UTC, respectively. look at the www.n3kl.com site and also spaceweather.com which is up again now, after their 12 hr outage on the 12th. Have your phone alert lists handy folks, those that subscribe.

Yeah, it's awesome, even though the comet is just orbiting the sun (when I first heard about it, I thought it was like a comet which came here from incredible distance after an incredible journey)

New NASA footage showing re-entry of Orion. The first couple of minutes are nothing short of incredible as it plummets at 20,000mph, through 2200C heat, hot plasma glowing purple around it.

Took me a wee while to work out exactly what I was looking at there! - a rear-facing camera. It's some incredible footage.
The music is great as well, as a few people have noted in the comments, pity they haven't credited it.

I noticed that someone in the comments has found the music to this. It's not a band but, slightly disappointingly, a bit of 'stock' music by a bloke called William Pearson called 'Drone for the dying', which I found here -

Click here, choose and area near the middle which looks like it's 'cloud' and start zooming.
Give it a few seconds for the image to refresh properly each time.
I think mind-blowing was just re-defined...

Be aware, it's truly gigantic. My old laptop was struggling to cope!
