Come to Dust is so good. I don't understand the mixed reactions.

It's quite a "normal" song. Perhaps that's what puts people off? It has a very simple beat, what sounds like a real drumkit (or at least the snare and kick) with subtle layers underneath. It has a simplicity to it which makes it quite easy to digest, especially if like myself, you come from a background in music that isn't electronic. It's impact is in it's vastness, and it's emotional weight.

Whilst I personally love that, the could also be what puts people off?

Spot on. Personally I adore that song, and its a real highlight. But I can understand some thinking its a bit vanilla.

I've recently become obsessed with Palace Posy. Usually with Tomorrow's Harvest, I can only listen to the whole album. Never just individual tracks. But Palace Posy stands alone as a work of absolute fucking beauty.

Yeah that makes sense Forton. Never really thought about that. I still think Come to Dust is really fresh and a new direction for BOC, especially how powerful the drums are. TH is fucking great. I loved it at first and listened to it heaps, but almost 2 years later (wow, already?) I love it so much more. It's definitely my 2nd favourite album of their's, with Geogaddi being the first. It seriously gets better with each listen. Sick Times is my favourite at the moment, but it's constantly changing. Their ability to make such cohesive albums is insane. Can't wait for whatever comes next.

If you don't like TCH and its theme, remember that BoC used to always use live instruments. And there is no way you can make songs from TH sound happy

And I guess they just recorded a synth and put it on the beginning of Come To Dust...

Najl , if you're implying that they don't use live instruments now that's incorrect. "live instruments" are all over tomorrow's harvest

To my ears and also on account of what Mike has said in an interview... the drums they record are never only from electronic sources. There is always live percussion constituting most of a drum track or at least blended with drum machines and other sampled percussion.

playing a physical synthesizer is a live a instrument, so that's everywhere.

I hear bass guitar on New Seeds...

they destroy sounds to make the source unrecognizable––so the source of a lot of the sounds on TH would probably surprise us if revealed.

of course there is some computing going on too, however, there is no way this record was made without significant use of physical instruments...

I remember them mentioning in an interview that after Music Has The Right To Children they started using computers more to compose and found they didn't like it because it killed the spontaneity and what they liked about the music making process.

What I think makes their sound so unique and special is that they sample themselves... maybe an hour of jamming produces one phrase for example. The way they rework those phrases into tracks is brilliant.

What I mostly meant are the instruments we can hear- like that bass guitar. Of course they like to destroy their sounds a lot, but their records always had some live, pure sounds too. Even the drums sound distorted on this LP

I don't know, my impression of TH is that it's the least processed/'distressed' of all their albums. Or maybe just in a more subtle way?

I have already said what I think about TH in another thread (your controversial BOC opinions).
I believe they play/put down as many live tracks as possible on their albums. Mike has often stated he likes to put down real drums. in this case I think they have tried to make TH as easy as possible to play live if augmented with a few other musicians,
they did say that they would love to go out and play with a more band orientated line-up. here's to that happening, and TH would probably make up the bulk of a very good set,maybe not what everybody wants to hear, but if it gets them out there playing the odd gig then that would be something else...

Can you elaborate on "distressed"?

And I seriously disagree with TH being the least processed album. On previous LPs and EPs you didn't even have to look for live instruments (not synthesizers)
