I've never really tried cheese with alcohol in close approximation, is it good/are there particular ones that go together?

With scotch I like some old gouda cheese, or gruyere, nothing to heavy on the taste (such as blue cheeses).
You could also try a red port wine with a variety of cheese (a blue cheese together with some pear or better yet fig jam)

A freshly caught pickerel. Huge sucker too. Fed 6 people with leftovers. It was breaded of coarse, with lemon juice squirted on top. Had that along with German noodle salad and fresh corn on the cob. Mmmmmmm.
