I would love to get my hands on that track sans vocals.

+1.

the track is gorgeous but i cant stand why?s whining over the top

harsh?

(ive given it many chances to grow, sink in whatever. it still reminds me of the godawful, wannabe-deep misogyny that artschool wankers have been postering about the west end of glasgow of late)
I know what you mean. There is a smugness about the vocals that does annoy. The faux-slacker whining which does seemed somewhat contrived. But I still love the track. Can't listen to anything else that Why have done though.

Just today I finally tracked down the original version of Good Friday and it's horrid. It really shows how creative BoC are by basically creating an amazing track and slapping the vocals on top of it.

:?

I love Why?..they take some time to appreciate. But they grow on you....

I still love the remix more than the actual song..I wouldn't call the original horrible though.

Why? is definitely not for everyone, but I never took them as contrived. :/

were you saying the vox on that track are misogynistic or that they remind you of something that is?

cause i didn't get those lyrics as being misogynistic.

I like the original, but -love- the remix. Vox intact.

Just listen to "A Sky for Shoeing Horses Under"...if you still don't like Why afterwards, then it's just not meant to be.

I think the lyrics fit the original better than the remix. The remix could have just as easily been a standard BOC track.

Isn't that what they go for when remixing--to completely reinterpret the song in their own way, making it "their own"? As far as I can tell, that's what they've defined it as, judging from every other example I've seen.

Their remixes are generally pretty removed for the source material. Bubbah's Tum is quite different.

Hell yeah. That Beck remix is definitely a favorite of mine. Haven't heard it in a long time so I'm putting it on now!

The original version of that song was horrible; the remix turned it into a great song. That was the first of Boards of Canada's work that I ever heard. I was so impressed that I went and bought "Trans Canada Highway" (only Boards of Canada I could find at a store) and ordered the rest of their albums on Amazon 8)

I hate to spoil it for you but they just sampled a trombone and threw a bunch of reverb on it. They did the same thing for Kiteracer 2.

I doubt that spoils anything for anyone. I'd already assumed it was sampled horn anyway.

Not so sure about Kiteracer 2 though.
