I think the remix makes Why?'s vocals a bit more pretentious, actually. His latest album is fantastic.

I can totally understand where people don't like the Why? remix for being like...crude and gross, but how is it pretentious exactly?

(I love it for being crude and gross...jerkin off in an art museum john till my dick hurts

IMO that line is pure gold, the realism and decadence of the scene is so palpable, and I can totally relate... yesss)

Maybe it's the way he performs? Have you ever seen a performance by him? I've seen him at Dour last year and to be honest he's quite something. He's got some kind of air when he performs. He's also rather apathetic.

Maybe that's why people attrribute the pretentiousness to him. But I'm a huge fan. I really love his voice; yeah it's true either you absolutely hate or love it. It's like Cypress Hill for example.

David Bowie had an air. Ziggy Stardust was pretentious or was it. Its probably more so to analyze Why? on these terms. Admits to masterbating in Starbucks in first-person lyrics--what a precious pony that guy is.

The remix track is too good btw

I hate to spoil it for you but they just sampled a trombone and threw a bunch of reverb on it. They did the same thing for Kiteracer 2.

He seemed fairly down to earth when I saw him... though that was in San Francisco at a moderate size hometown show, not quite the same as playing a huge overseas festival.
