Bollocks to it, KEEP GOING TEAM TWOISM!! This thread makes ALL the difference.

I'm reminded of Bill Hicks joke about moths:

'What did moths do before light bulbs? Right now, are there millions of moths heading for the moon yelling 'Come on, keep going!!! IT'LL BE WORTH IT!!!'

Since there's nothing productive really going on in this thread, I'd like to ask a question: Recently my iPod wiped itself out and I had to recover all of my songs from a backup I'd made. iTunes did a good job at tagging all of the songs correctly except for ONE. (And thank god it's an old BoC song)

Which song is this: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ur0wwg ? The first one that tells me gets a piece of black paper sent to their house in a package marked "BOARDS OF CANADA TEST ALBUM ARTWORK"

Japanese record companies insist on Japanese releases getting an extra track or two so that Japanese people buy their versions rather than importing.

i've always wondered about that. is that really the reasoning behind it?

Maybe it's because "I want the one I can't have" but I always think Japan-only tracks are often some of the best.

Yeah.
That's interesting. Say all pressings were the same, would it come down to a price issue? Is it cheaper for them to import rather than buy from home?

It doesn't matter, because imports wouldn't stimulate Japan's economy.

Price, availability, getting hold of the "original" pressing... yeah I don't know, you'd have to ask a Japanese person why they'd import. But yeah at some point they decided the best way to combat that was adding a carrot of a few extra tracks. (Flash forward a few years to DVDs and they invented region locking to act as a stick)

i live in chile, here the taxes for things like music, books, art, are very high. here a normal Cd cost a 30 USD , i think that is too expensive,That's why I bought the CDs of Boards Of Canada in Bleep.com Each one cost me $ 14 USD with shipping included.

Importing is also really popular marketing technique just to boost record sales in general (for overall revenue/better performance in different countries) and appeal to the collectors. I know Lady Gaga's debut album had at least four different tracklistings depending on the country you bought the disc from. Each subtracting a song and adding one in it's place.

I don't think Boards would take this approach though. It seems to be something that's done mainly in the pop world.

Agreed. I'll bet Gaga probably had a special version for each retailer as well. Buy the K-Mart edition. No no! Buy the Best Buy edition! Fuck all!
