Welcome to a roundup of our most anticipated pre-orders.
Following a bread crumb trail of hexagons and VHS tapes hinting at something new, Boards of Canada have returned with Inferno, their first new album in 13 years. You may have noticed that due to a large volume of traffic to the site yesterday, Bleep was momentarily down. This was due to the large demand for this release, and Warp Records have updated the release info for the deluxe vinyl format:
We have experienced overwhelming demand for this record. We want to supply all orders, and so are keeping the presses going to match demand. The record is currently being pressed at multiple pressing plants around the world. Customers who have already received order confirmations should still get their order on, or close to release date. From this point, we can not guarantee that orders will be delivered by release day, and it is likely there will be some delay, but we will get them to you as soon as possible. The release date listed here is a long date and should be improved upon. Digital formats will be available for download from 29th May. We will not keep pressing this format beyond the release date. The black vinyl format will be repressed and kept in stock moving forward beyond release date.
I just checked and yup, September 18th is the new (current) release date for the red vinyl

Does Bleep offer FLACs as a download? I got my order in for the red DLP 5 minutes after the album announcement via email (so prior to Bleep's meltdown) but, just in case it's delayed until September, I wanna make sure I can listen to this in high quality on my setup on release date.

Then it's time to wake AFX up for a new album. Or repress Drukqs.

You think Syro or Tomorrow's Harvest would've been a stress test for bleep.com beyond just that it's been up 15+ years. I wonder how big this was

If you order the vinyl you get the 24 bit wav free (check your order email)

At first, I was disappointed by the Inferno concept. And I couldn’t quite see the connection between the album title, the track titles, the posters and the VHS promo. But looking more closely at the cover art, I think I’ve finally grasped the concept.
I don’t think the album has anything to do with cults nor horror films. If the VHS promo & Tape 05 hinted at that direction, it was mostly to tease their fans, who see Mike & Marcus as modern-day prophets who will open our eyes with their infinite wisdom. In this video, they gently remind their audience of the potential pitfalls of deifying humans (something that has been done over and over since Nimrod). However, they end their promo by telling their fans that they love them regardless and that there’s nothing wrong with connecting through music. Anyway, I think the joke's on us.
Now, back to the Inferno concept : What is the connection between the title, the image of this smiling young black girl, and those children without pupils? Those who believe in hell certainly do not imagine it populated by children.
Yet, looking closely at the cover, one can see trees on fire (at the bottom of the image). Then there's this young girl smiling whilst the forest is burning. What else could se do ? It appears to me that Inferno must be a conceptual album about global warming. And those children without pupils are not zombies; they simply have no future. How could they have bright eyes ?
Whilst Tomorrow’s Harvest dealt with threats hanging over humanity, but mainly referred to a military/nuclear catastrophe. I believe Inferno takes a similar approach, but will focus more specifically on the degradation of ecosystems. Inferno Tower for the whole planet. Knowing BoC's genuine love for nature and sympathy for children, that would totally make sense.
Heat has played a major role in the origin of life (Hydrogen/Helium), but now things are getting out of control. Magical thinking (Acts of magic) and greenwashing is certainly not a solution.

I know some would be annoyed that something is first sold as "Limited" and then changed to have that word removed, but the real value in this format is the booklet for me. And the more the better
Black with booklet would be the perfect format.

I agree. I just went for the black and CD because the CD also has a booklet.

The booklet that comes with the CD has a few more pages than the booklet that comes with the vinyl so that's a good incentive to own both.

i noticed that, but wondered if it's because the CD booklet will be smaller... rather than more content. Obviously, own them all is the correct answer

Well, we'll see, I guess.
I'd still bet Tape 05 is actually Father And Son. Same length... Also religious imagery in the video aligns with the title. Even structurally the song is Father (1. half) and Son (2. half).
The first half is dark, foreboding = Father, the vengeful God of the Old Testament.
The second half is light, forgiving = Son, Jesus Christ, the messianic God of the New testament.
Hence the felling of redemption at the end of the song; many of us listeners almost crying...
I love this idea, first half of the song feels old testament, mysterious, foreboding, menacing. Second half is new testament, forgiveness, personal salvation and redemption for humanity.

I tried to look up a Wikipedia article on Wikispooks but instead found a Wikispooks article on Wikipedia and how it's a psyop by the deep state and intelligence agencies in order to brainwash the masses. Looks like I lucked out not getting gaslit by a Wikipedia article written by totalitarian elite shills!
