I got called a hipster because I said I didn't really like The Beatles. Weird.

Nobody will lock this thread, it is relevant and has something to do with boC, look, if you can't take someone else's point of view with a grain of salt then obviously you're a little to touchy when it comes to other opinions.
The guy is a douchebag, no question about it. I did however, find his point of views interesting because of how much they differed from my own. I disagreed, whole heartedly, but reading about another perspective on my favorite band, interested me, seeing as most people don't really hate on BoC, I thought I'd also show everyone else, a negative view to see what their thoughts were on it.
Honestly, some people actually didn't let it hurt their feelings and gave their two sense about it so thank you, ladies and gentlemen, who were not little crybabys about some jo shmoe, badmouthing their music taste.
This IS a public forum, on forums we post things about anything to do with the subject, the subject was a bad review on BoC and that is still aloud on this forum, so no it probably won't be locked sorry mate, maybe if you don't like a post, stay out of it.
We all love BoC, sometimes it's nice to venture beyond our own biased opinions and see what other's think of them. The article ticked me off too but I'm not going to let it ruin my life.

It was a joke. Obviously I know the thread isn't going to get locked lol. I am quite sarcastic.
EDIT: And I have no problem whatsoever about someone expressing their own opinion. I couldn't care less about the article. The joke I made was referring to the amount of times the word hipster was being used in the thread.

It doesn't upset me or make me mad if people don't like boc, it has no effect on my enjoyment. I just think conversations about the "h word" (that swear jar is a good idea) are pointless and stupid. Maybe it's my age, but it's not relevant to my life at all, it's not funny or interesting or thought provoking. It usually comes across like a cop out when someone is insecure about their own opinion.
It's like when old people get towards the end of their life and you ask them "if you could go back and change one)thing, what would it be?" and they're like "I wouldn't have wasted so much time worrying about things that don't matter". I'm pretty sure worrying about hipsters falls under that category of shit that doesn't really matter.

I prefer to listen to bands that are hated because that makes me feel so sophisticated...

Right, so lets lock this thread
...or at least, ignore it.

I wonder if 'Hipster' refers to 'Arty Farty', or would that be a rather local expression?

Oh, come on. Of course hipsters do exist. Who else is trashing your des res working class neighbourhoods and making the price of everything rise but hipsters, yuppies and tourist drunkards? Hipsters are simply trend-inclined upper middle class types who don't have a yuppie's job. Now, I don't think they are of any relevance to whether BoC are shite or not. And the fact is that guy's article is piss-poor.

Almost every band has their "elitist" fans, those who "really" get it whatever, "it" is but that's pointless...
Everyone has different tastes. I've been trying to get my friends into BoC for years, but only because I love their music and wanted to share it. Christ, the amount of times I'd force my friends to listen to them when trapped in my car when driving to gigs or to other people's houses was enough to drive anyone mad.
The fact is, BoC are awesome, to me anyway.
And the funny thing is, now, years later, i've noticed my friends either own at least one of their albums ( usually Geogaddi ) or at least like some of their stuff.
My work here is done...
Now for operation "Tomorrow's Harvest."
Cannot wait to hear this lp.
Welcome back BoC, we missed you...

You're a 100% right and that is something that has a huge impact on people's lives in urban areas, but I don't see how shallow poorly thought out hipster jokes about bands and what glasses you wear adds to a conversation about gentrification. It cheapens it in my opinion.

I guess I just find it fascinating how much one will defend their favorite bands. I got mad, I'm not going to lie, BOC is my favorite band. maybe I shouldn't be surprised that others would get upset too, perhaps it was my curiousity that compelled me to post this thread but I do know two things,
1. People who listen to the same bands are not the same people.
2. That was the only bad review I could find on Boards of Canada.
In the end... the message is clear.

And I'm quoting myself here, I know, but I want to add that I do see how music and such could have relevance in a discussion about racial and class appropriation, so I'm not trying to dismiss that as a whole, just the the way it's being talked about in the op article.
