I must be having a hung-over epiphany here because something with Alice in Chains has clicked with me tonight. I stuck on Dirt and my god, what a cracking album. Staley's voice was something else. I mean its a fantastic iconic track but if I were to pick a Beatles closer itd be the medley off Abbey road (not counting them as separate tracks). Its the musical documentation of a band that was starting to hate each other disintegrating as these disperate musical ideas all collide, not able to form standalone songs, the wheels falling off the songwriting machine. Its like: this is what weve got left. Pauls vocal in Golden Slumbers trying to will the thing along one more lap. Trying to recapture the singalong thing in Carry That Weight which as a song is just an unfocussed idea set to music. And in the end...

One of my fav is "Out of this world [Version 138]" by Art of Noise, it's just the perfect ending for their "Debussy" album.

It depends what your focus is mate. I mean purely talking here about how technically advanced it was, how representative it was of the radical change in consciousness in that generation, and how well constructed and cohesive a track as well. Not to mention it ends my personal favourite release from them. As a side note, the first time my dad heard it back then it really messed him around, he'd never ever heard anything like it.

I do love the Abbey Road medley, but it is a closer to a half-baked album made up of a collection of mostly solo tracks from the different members. It is more attractive when the listener is more interested in the personal narrative of the band rather than both them and their effects on and reflections of the times. My favourite thing about that medley is Harrison's contribution in 'You Never Give Me Your Money', and 'The End'.

Sonic Youth- "Trilogy: A) The Wonder, B) Hyperstation, Z) Eliminator Jr." off of Daydream Nation- which also has one of the best album openers.

Bob Dylan- "Buckets of Rain" off of Blood on the Tracks. Comes so perfectly after "Shelter from the Storm".

Grizzly Bear- "Sun in Your Eyes" off of Shields.

Underworld- "Best Mamgu Ever" off of Oblivion With Bells.

Just the first few that come to mind:

Nine Inch Nails - "Hurt"
Sigur Ros - "Untitled 8"

I knew I would see a lot of Radiohead and MBV in this thread, but I didn't know it would be this much. Too much rock in general, actually.

In spite of the statement I just made, I'm going to point out that The Bees Made Honey In the Lion's Skull is a wonderful ending to an album (which progresses beautifully from the beginning to the end). Sundome and YJY UX are great ones as well.

Keeping more to my predictable post-industrial taste, though, I'm going to put "But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter?" as my absolute favorite.

I feel the need to add a couple more I've thought of:

All these songs finish the album off really nicely. I wouldn't say they are the best, but they are pretty good

I typed this, then backspaced it because sometimes I feel like I turn into way too much of a Pop Tart on Twoism. (I feel like I singlehandedly destroyed the "Twoism Classics" thread because I mentioned Lone's work on the Azealia Banks album, but, dammit Lone used to post here and Lone deserves praise for bubbling up like that).

But, while we're here Madonna has a knack for album closers. "Gone" from the Music album is also a great closer and so is "Easy Ride" from the dreadfully underrated American Life album. "Take a Bow" is obviously a great way to end the Bedtime Stories album

For whatever reason I really enjoy "Secret Garden" as the closer to Erotica (most likely because of its delicate, almost virgin nature).

I'd even argue to say "Like it or Not" from Confessions on a Dancefloor is a wonderful closer.

90's & early 00's Madonna is flawless. I really, really admire her craft up until about 2008. She lost me at "Hard Candy" because it's very obvious that she's borrowing from her contemporaries, forgetting that she made her contemporaries. However, I must mention that she only lost me on her studio albums...she still puts on one hell of a live show and I really enjoy listening to her interviews (& there's a few decent tracks on Hard Candy, MDNA, and Rebel Heart.......not many).

Thank you for mentioning Mer Girl. If there's one Pop album I would recommend all of Twoism to dive into, it's definitely "Ray of Light"
