i'm actually sceptical of all these osx updates on my machine, is there any way not to update after restart? what are these updates doing to the hardware? slowing it down is one thing. the money spin again. its gotten worse i think, shit don't last anymore. die date fully enabled the day you buy it. good machines but dont last as long anymore, all intended of course.

i think i'll go back to 2001

Aye... Bit of a divergent line of discussion from the OP - but, there is truth in those comments...

actually benchmarks show that even on old hardware, apple os updates tend to be faster than the last. they have good engineering talent there. i think that the idea that software updates are deliberately slowing down your machine for planned obsolescence is a pretty cynical not to mention uninformed theory!

That shiny layer of glass on most apple products is proof they are adding expiration dates to their products.

this iPhone, for example. is not broken, but you will get an irritated thumb, and if you have money, probably buy a new one.

My phone, a Samsung Wave S8500 has been in my posession for over 3 years, I've treated it like shit, it has gone through hell and back (fell down so many flights of stairs you wouldn't believe) , yet there is not a crack on there. Don't be a shitface, get an asian phone.

I was hoping you guys would be above partisan bickering over tech devices, haha.

At this point, Android and Apple are pretty much on par from a functionality perspective. Apple is good for people who might not otherwise be tech savvy, but their product is like a faberge egg. It's a bit of a cult and so yes, they figure you'll be buying next year's model anyways, with incremental improvements.

Android has been great for people who are more technical, and they've made some good headway with regard to making their OS more palatable to Joe Sixpack.

I enjoy my GS3, but I won't ever try to tell anyone that my phone is better than their phone - more than ever, they are all pretty good and all accomplish the same things, now it's just a status symbol for people to bicker about, like a favorite team or political party.

Perhaps not with Apple. I have a PC that I built back in 2005. With everything in proper functioning order and routine maintenance, it doesn't run anywhere near as good as it used to even after fresh installs. Older software has had a tendency to become bloated with updates. Planned or intentional or not, we have to keep updating our hardware / software or eat dust.

That's just the nature of the beast in general. All institutions under a capitalist system can only run off of cyclical consumption. They need more and more energy and resources to survive.

I think they are uncompromising about the music they make but make certain concessions such as licensing tracks to avoid touring and jumping through the usual hoops needed to bring in the real cash. But Nike and BoC just does not feel right to me, a little disappointed but whatever.

Bands licensing their music to adverts is no longer the big evil it was once considered. Back in the 90's if any artist did such a thing fans would have scorn poured all over them, and quite rightly so.

Since file stealing, napster etc, those days have gone as bands need to make money from their music and companies using them for adverts probably gives a nice income. So I think we should be a bit easier going on BOC.
