Boards of Canada has never made "just another release"

Yeah, I know what you're saying and to a point I agree. I just kind of feel the reason these are special is they aren't polished and pristine. Having said that, we shouldn't have them anyway and I'm sure they didn't want them out there on ratty mp3s anyway. Hmmm. Mixed views, but its their choice of course.

I fell for that too. Don't believe anything he says.

Also I'd like them to release WAVs of the music, but I don't think I'd want a physical copy. I'd like them to stay rare

When I was young I recorded the songs that i like on tape, straight from the radio, as i'm sure, alot of people did. The result was an eclectic collection of weird songs, some talking etc.
This is exactly what makes the old tunes so good; its like someone recorded some underground bizarre shit on a tape in the '80.
To remaster en officially release it would be miles besides what makes old tunes so cool in the first place.

If they want to release their old catalogue on a proper vinyl/cd release, I would say yes, would def buy it

Hipster, what it even means here? I think this would be just another release plus to my collection :)

The Old Tunes have been available more or less for 13 years now. I'd like if they didn't waste an entire release on them.

A remastered Zander 2 or an entirely new record?

This - and it gets it out of the way for some new old tunes next time! I mean, its in the ASCAP catalog, so you'd think that it will happen, but Mark might be right - I never really expected to see 1:1 releases of the OT tapes, but I figured we'd get Maxima someday though.

Yeah, that's my guess too--wait for a lull in album work and then release Boc Maxima 1st. I've always wondered if they viewed it as a mental early cut of MHTRTC, but it really does have its own feel. After releasing that, a big comp so the stuff already out there could still be appreciated separately. I'm no lawyer, but one thing I like about the situation they've created is that they probably have more power to re-release than most by self-claiming copyright so early on so much.

That's definitely a possibility, but you do have to wonder why now? After all these years, why would Warp decide to register these tracks now in an effort to curb the piracy of them, if they weren't planning on monetizing them in some way?

I think after what mdg has been alluding to, as well as Joyrex's post (taking anything he says with a grain of salt), and the fact these have been registered post TH, I think it's safe to assume these will be officially released soon-ish, if not within the year.

On a sort of similar note, has sequoia always been in BoC's youtube playlist? I knew 5d was in there, but it's quite cool that sequoia is too, I never noticed before
