So it's possible, if it was faked, that the faker made that connection and then decided to use that sample, but it's still a major coincidence for it to crop up again years later.

A few people have made the "it's too digital" argument, but when have they ever used exclusively analog equipment?

The 'noise' we associate with their early works is mainly due to them being dodgy tape rips, whereas these mystery clips sound more like clean CD rips.

I really want these to be real because I love everything about Focus on the Spiral.

Also yes, They do use digital, They use DAT, Digital audio tape for the masters so yeah the too clean or too digital argument isn't going to fly.

We probably won't figure it out but to me there are more reasons why this is them as opposed to why this isnt

You're right, There actually 6 levels of close encounters according to J. Allen Hynek's scale

Close Encounter of the First Kind (CE1) – Seeing a UFO

Close Encounter of the Second Kind (CE2) – Physical effects (marks on ground, radiation, etc.)

Close Encounter of the Third Kind (CE3) – Seeing occupants or beings associated with a UFO

Close Encounter of the Fourth Kind (CE4) – Human abduction by UFO occupants

Close Encounter of the Fifth Kind (CE5) – Direct communication between humans and non-human intelligence

Close Encounter of the Sixth Kind (CE6) – Injury or death associated with a UFO encounter

Focus On The Spiral is at the very least a well made fake, certainly has a lot of the hallmarks of BoC's sound. That being said I'm still sceptical about it, and the other supposed CV1 tracks. Why would a couple of tracks leak but not the whole album, since anyone who had access to these tracks would presumably have access to the entirety of Closes Vol. 1?

Maybe they didn't have access to the entirety and that's all they had. Maybe they got a CD rip and it didn't rip properly and that's all they had without skips clicks and pops. Maybe they were just teasing a few tracks? The possibilities aren't endless and cant be used to try to debunk the potential authenticity

I think the earlier these came out the more likely it is their legitimate. Much less hype back then, People probably much more lax about letting things out into the wild as opposed to nowadays
