Not sure if anyone on here digs The Magnetic Fields -- I've been listening to them for about a decade and a few of Stephin's albums are up there in my all-time favorites -- but the new one, 50 Song Memoir, is easily one of their best ... it's their eleventh album and the last two were iffy in spots, so I had my doubts ... but wow.

Didn't think I'd be recommending this before it came out but now totally in love with Fink's Sunday Night Blues Club Vol. 1

the original album is great but he redubbed the whole album for Solid Steel recently with alternate takes/less vocals/instrumentals....has a nice soundtrack feel to it...chilled and bluesy

...not totally sure if the dub versions can be truly appreciated until you hear the originals but that's just the way round I heard em!

Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me

everyone who enjoyed Carrie & Lowell should try this, it's more intense, bleak, depressing and hopeless.
It's almost non-music in how there's no real progression in the tracks and the chords are so simple, but it's immensely powerful and contains some of the realest lyrics I've heard in a long time.

"Death is real, someone's there and then they're not
It's not for singing about, it's not for making into art
When real death enters the house, all poetry is done"

those are the opening lines of the album

Woah TTK. I'm in a relatively ok place at the moment and don't want to jinx it. However, I shall bookmark that for another day. Sounds interesting. Cheers.

The next week is going to be crazy:

March 31: Freddie Gibbs You Only Live 2wice
April 6: The Caretaker Everywhere at the End of Time (Part 2)
April 7: Arca Arca
April 7: Clark Death Peak
April 7: Probably a new Kendrick Lamar album ...

I need to take a retreat next weekend during which I can take long, aimless walks and listen to these albums without interruption.

Exactly what I was about to say. Sounds like a great record but, dammit, the sun's out today and even my cat's acting kinda chilled.

yeah it's about the death of the musician's wife, he wrote and recorded it in the four months after her death,

entirely in her recording space, using her instruments and equipment.

it feels like a ghost is hanging over the record.
