Haha I love this! I remember those previews I'd listen to so many of them.

Probably answered this in one of the other threads, but my older sister's then-boyfriend dumped their harddisk mp3 player onto my computer and it was full of skam, warp and ninjatune stuff. Really nice guy, taught me how to use soulseek, he even gave me his really radical skateboard. Hope you're doing well, Niels, whatever you are up to. It took a while to get there but Olson hit me like a ton of bricks, how their stuff has such vivid color in this weird temporal space. Completely changed the way I thought about music and quickly inspired me making my first full album Copied Betamax, which was kind of shit but also kind of adorable.

I actually don't remember how I very first heard about them, but it was in 2013 for sure.

Checked their discog the year after, I didn't want to listen to 2-3 random tracks, cause I've heard they were something special.

I heard Roygbiv on a mixtape in 2006 and the rest is history.

Channel 4 Teletext Planet Sound circa 2001/02. Bear in mind I didn't have the Internet at home until 2014. Before this I relied on public libraries and cyber cafés (remember them?).

As stupid as it sounds, some of my earliest exposure to BoC came from YouTube Poops. The ones made by Awful Fawful had tracks like the Poppy Seed remix, 5.9.78, and a few others that I forgot about enamored me and I never looked back. I can’t say for certain if those are my earliest exposure to BoC but that’s the one I remember as being the earliest.

I found boards of canada (and almost all of my music taste) by watching adult swim and trying to find the music they used in bumps between commercials. I stumbled upon one that used Constants are Changing and they rest is history.

Vinny Vinesauce (long running Twitch streamer) played a game called The Excellent Game like 6 years ago. At one point, he takes a pill and the screen gets all trippy. During this, Seven Forty Seven plays and when I watched the VOD I immediately went to find who made the song. I found out that the game also uses several other BoC songs, including A is to B as B is to C (reversed) and Dave (I'm A Real Traditionalist). It uses a lot of other great music as well, so I'd recommend playing it as it's a free... experience? there's surprisingly a lot to do considering the game was never finished.

Thom Yorke mentioning BOC being an influence for Kid A after it released . This was prior to the 2006 interview specially citing MHTRTC.

Similar thing. I think I was searching "ambient electronic artists like Kid A " on Last.fm and found BoC and Biosphere.
