Twas nice, actually fell asleep to it earlier, which is weird cos i can never sleep to music in general. Haven't heard that other song yet, may try and download it somewhere, maybe even a full album of Kings, as i've only got a couple of songs by them.

dl the black dictaphone and now im in love
recorded on 4 track with voice and guitar only i think
his voice is an instrument

i'm listening to the music on his myspace right now. It is very moving.. Makes me a little sad too though. But that's the best music most of the time. I like it!

yeah! I heard a song by her on a TV show called Gilmore Girls once and i wrote down the words because i just HAD TO find out who that was. Turned out to be Chimacum Rain. (i find esp. the part that starts at 1:29 really moving) The song is not hard to play on the guitar as well.
Listening to other songs now on her myspace as well. Very nice indeed.

I'm starting to dig Regina Spektor too. I'm learning to play Twenty Years of Snow on the piano - sweet stuff.

yeah, i like sad music. Ive come to that realization. I wasn't blown away at first listen, but his music really grows on me. Ive been listening to him for a few months now and i think it's just simple and beautiful. I'll have to check out some of the other recommendations in this thread. Cool thread!

From "Fairport Convention" i suggest : "The Classic Years" [1967-1975] a 2/cd on Island Records.

For anyone interested in Celtic folk or "folk rock" (as the thread title suggests), I'd strongly recommend picking up some Fairport Convention. "Leige and Lief" is their best, in my opinion.

In the same vein, I'm a big fan of Steeleye Span (note: not Steely Dan) and Alan Stivell (whom my brother is named after). Stivell's "Harpes Due Novel Age" is a truly beautiful record...pioneered some electronics in its time as well. Maddy Prior, who sang for Steeleye Span, has some great solo stuff out there as well.

Overall, this type of music was easily one of the most fundamental parts of my musical upbringing, and still a major inspiration for what I do now.

...I think you guys would also really dig the album "Silver Creature" released by an old labelmate of mine, Brian Ellis, on Benbecula.
