How is this possible?
MDG (and BoC?) themselves didn't even know how the R35TT mp3 collection came to be? (and until now it was just known to be a collection of mp3s)
As far as I knew, it was never even confirmed to exist as an actual tape ?!
Amazing.
Yes, very true actually. Wasn't R35TT a leak? I wish we had context, but won't push it. A lot of my favourite boc songs are in this release.
The possibility of Catalog 3, Hooper Bay, Acid Memories or Play By Numbers being heard in my life time has just shot through the roof.

Lossless A06 and soundboard rip of Echus. Just writing it feels weird. What a year.

I followed the links to archive.org. What is the difference between the two rips? Is the OG tape rip the one that came out years ago and the Rip V2 the new one? Also, has anyone split the tracks yet?

The quality of these new files is astounding. Getting a listen in right now and I did not expect it to sound this much better. So great! Thank you!!

I don’t understand how this is an original rip of a tape that the band did not arrange themselves, as MDG said. There is an extant, ‘original’ cassette of all these tracks compiled together?

Great work Sam & Niski, thanks so much!

This is amazing! I didn't even think this tape was real and so never bothered to download of listen to it.
But why two rips? Am I thick? I don't get it. Would love to know more about how this all transpired.
Which rip is best?
I don't think this is a coincidence, so the band must be involved at some level.
What a great year for BoC!

the 2 rips have been known to exist for a while after a rather mangled version of the RealAudio leak from circa 2001 surfaced.. never was on rareboc, don't think posting it now is useful but i believe that after looking since ~2021-22 (around when i saw that those existed, didn't know what they were yet) i managed to get my hands on that around 2024 and it was that same slightly faster and quieter quality like the "v1" rip. all other versions are derived from the "v2" rip, "rare cassette tracks" and the 5 side B tracks on "unreleased materials" are un-processed, just compressed

Ahhh, so the leaks were degraded in quality due to compression / glitches / re-copying etc.
These are going back to the source, but not the original tape.
So the V2 is probably the better one?
I guess an even better rip of the original tape will appear in a few weeks!
[joke, but also wouldn't be surprised if it does]

precisely, plus layers of crappy Cool Edit hiss removal.
"V2" is the one that's used as a source for everything but that one real audio leak, so you could say so. i prefer that one at least

So V2 is sourced from a RealAudio file (the original one).
And V1? Is that a new FLAC rip of an actual tape? Or is it a "first-gen" mp3 or something?

no, both rips are from 2000/01 and they are the sources for all circulating encodes, post-processings and whatnot. "V1" for the RealAudio leak and "V2" for everything else.

I'm still confused. I asked the exact same question as northernlite there on the YouTube video & was told the OG rip is the new one and the V2 rip was the one that has circulated before but I have also read the opposite?
I just wanna know which is the best version to grab & don't really understand why you would release an already circulating rip alongside the new rip? It's bound to cause confusion unless you give them really simple titles like 'old rip' & 'new rip'.
Does anyone have a definitive answer on which is the new cleanest & clearest rip? The one I heard does sound amazing, hearing things that I have never noticed before.

Both are old rips from 2000/01.
Which is best is probably subjective.
