Ok, I'll weigh in.

Screw meaning. I'm comfortable with the notion that, quite possibly, I'm no more than a sack of meat in a big cold universe that doesn't care about me or my friends or how cool we are.

The universe being an unmoderated circus of absurdity and pointless chaotic action doesn't frighten or upset me. What scares me is meteors.

you should spend some time listening to or reading the philosopher, Alan Watts.

he basically continuously makes the point, that the universe is a part of us. almost like the other side of a coin, its still part of the coin, but you just cant see it from your angle.

if you really begin to look into physics, and quantum physics. you begin to see that you are the driving force in the universe. and most of what we have been taught in religion and science has been false.


basically the rant im trying to go on boils down to this. its not some big meaningless universe that we were thrown into and are separate from. i think my purpose for being on this planet is to make myself, and as many people as i can. happy. just spreading joy and smiling at people can truly transform your world. im not trying to sound like some burnt hippie. i just think that if everyone loved each other, our world would instantly transform into heaven.




as far as you could feel the sky goes. when i first began listening to the song, i didnt even enjoy it. thought it was just noise. then after a year or 2 i gave it a few fair listens. long story short, its now one of my favorite boards of canada songs.
it seems to make me feel like im in the woods, probably around sunset. but halfway through the song i get the feeling of a sacrifice taking place, or something horrible, like a strange tribal ceremony. that native american like voice toward the end that kind of yells in horror seems to fit the song perfectly.

I love this track. I really love the beat, although that ticking noise throughout kind of bothers me. Unsettling. Like an old grandfather clock ticking backwards. Or perhaps another slide projector sample. Anyway, I always thought that those 'world music' sounds in this track and the latter half of the album had a touch of FSOL influence about it (even though the record sounds nothing like FSOL). Great stuff.

The rythm of You Could Feel The Sky is, what I believe, Velcro ripping. The other noises are unheard of in my mind...

This song makes ME feel like I'm emerging from hell. And I'm escaping torment.

Played in reverse, this song is one of the most beautiful in BoC's library.

Anyway, I've always had an un-easy feel about this track but at the same time theres something positive in there...just can't work out what it is.

And yeah, that 'velcro-ripping' sound is intense. Great sample.

Welcome! ever listened to this track in reverse? It's wonderful. as well as A:B::B:C, but thats just an obvious. Also try: Dandelion, Ready Let's Go, Corsair, and (of coarse) MAGIC WINDOW! Magic Window is great in reverse

YCFTS fills me with a euphoria that is....indescribable. I'm female and it, well, 'does things to me' it truly makes me feel like i want to be alone with my partner in some canyon somewhere where we are truly alone.

Okay, that's cool. Anyway, I noticed that whosampled lists When the Music Starts to Play by The Incredible String Band as being used on "The Smallest Weird Number" but listening to it it's clear that it's the same eerie flute from "You Could Feel The Sky" (pitch shifted of course).

Also, the sound of hooves quietly tapping is constant through the song.

IMHO the best track of boards of canada.
