Oh Jesus, sorry man I wasn't ignoring you, I just missed this thread for a while. Um, yeah I liked The Teachings Of Don Juan very much. Castaneda is actually quite an irritating figure in those books sometimes - he comes over as callow and very one-dimensional against Don Juan's silence and wisdom. But I think he intended to portray himself that way. You should also check out on current thoughts about the veracity of the books, as many people say Castaneda made it all up and presented it as semi-anthropological findings, even that Don Juan himself was fictional. Even if this is so, they remain interesting object lessons in perception, especially for someone like me who has no religious faith or philosophical affiliation. I almost find the books more interesting because Don Juan might be fictional, although I dearly hope he was a real man. A Separate Reality is also good, Journey to Ixtlan started to get a bit ponderous for me.

In the spirit of providing a quote, Time magazine apparently rolled out this rather disrespectful one about Castaneda - "an enigma wrapped in a mystery wrapped in a tortilla."

I'd hope he'd feel that way. Mr. James is quite a humble fellow from what I can tell.

I love Dali's artwork but I never understood his personality, he's almost not even human. I think some people are born with the makings of a totally self-satisfied person, and others are born destined to be troubled and tormented, and Dali would definitely fall into the former camp unless I'm missing something very big about him.

I know, the guy is an amazing artist. I've loved his stuff since I was a kid.
