i made sure i always said only positive things about them in their presence otherwise they would be hurt..
O and i always made up those weird basic melodies in my head that went with a situation or a person.. Or just to annoy myself by singing them over and over (in my head)..

I remember years ago, i somehow ripped my teddy's eye off, and i was so upset. So, every night, I'd say to it ''Don't worry, i'll get you another eye soon. I promise.''
And this teddy was quite big too! I still have my very first teddy, which is small, given to me when i was a wee baby

- it's in good condition as well. Never letting go of it.

I had a teddy that was the same way except the eye was already ripped out when we got him so we sewed on a button eye so that he had one button eye and one shiny eye so I called him Twinkle-Eye, which in retrospect is a very odd name for a teddy bear.

I also believed my stuffed dog 'Joop' couldn't do without my love, otherwise he would die. So I spoke to him a lot, and told him I loved him.
And I also was/ am counting everything I see around. I count trees, cars, bricks. Sometimes, I have to step in a certain pattern on the street tiles, otherwise I will have a bad day at work. At the same time I know it's stupid to think that way, but I still do it.
Or, for example, I have to kick a pebble three times in a row with my left leg without losing it, and it will provide me a lot of female attention, etc. I know it's complete bollocks, but I still do it sometime, especially when I'm tensed.
I too, do things which annoy me.. Why? Maybe to toughen me up or some'.
I know that when I was about 9 years old I'd repeat a certain pattern of sounds, thoughts and eye-figure-patterns (like a square), if you know what I mean, all at the same time. This almost brought me into a trance, which felt great (can be compared to beeing really really stoned). This even worked better, had greater results, when I was ill.. Once I knew I could do this, I repeated this very ofted to, for example, calm myself down after a heavy day.
Anyways, I'm real drunk. I hope I'm making at least a bit sense to you all..

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to overcome my shyness? I've suffered with shyness all my life, and maybe it's part of who i am, but i want to be more comfortable when in social situations. I have tried socializing at clubs (well once or twice) and didn't really get anything from it. I am too scared to actually walk up to a person and start a conversation, the only time i feel comfortable is when i am around my parents, sister and a few friends. I tried counselling, but it's hasn't had any effect on me really, and to be honest, it was like being back at Primary school, having to colour in some shit and write a postcard to yourself, fuck that. At school, the teachers all thought i had Autism, and my sister had to explain to them, that i didn't and was just a shy person. Fucking hated it when teachers treated you differently, or spoke in the tone of voice, like you were speaking to an old lady who had hearing trouble.
Thank fuck for the internet! It allows me to express my feelings

. I love Facebook too, even though a lot of the stuff i say on there, you wouldn't catch me saying in reality haha (not because it's rude or anything, just i haven't got the guts).

I can relate to the shyness part.
Especially when I was a kid, I was extremely shy, probably due to the fact that I was a very sensitive kid. Over the years, I managed to control my shyness and most people couldn't even guess I am a shy person underneath.
What helped me, is to think a lot of times, what the fuck, what can happen? People can blow me off, oh yes, but that doesn't mean the end of the world is near. Just don't think so much about other people, or how they possibly could react, just think of yourself as a super important person. Who doesn't want to talk to you?? The're nuts if they don't want to. Just say what you want to say, just lift your foot from the brakes, let it go.
Jake dude, you are a great guy. It's a shame that your shyness controls you like this, as a lot of people should in fact get to know you, because you are a great guy!
It seems like an hell of a job to talk to somebody you don't know, but really, when you think about it, it isn't at all. What's the worst thing that can happen?? Just use people to practise controlling your shyness

.
Maybe it can help you to practise before a mirror, or practise with some of your family. Even writing down a couple of questions, and learn them by heart, can help.
Really, you're a cool dude, everybody should get to know you!

Epic relation to the posts above. This has been a very very weird and sad start of the year. Both my best friends broke up with their long term girlfriends and another of my best friend's father died over new year, and then to top it off my old house (which my dad trying to sell as he is living in canada now) sprung a leak in the pipe and flooded the place rendering the resale useless! :/
Man are we gonna go out this saturday and celebrate the last weekend of a weird month

Aww thanks man. I will definitely try the techniques you mentioned. I hope they work, or in some way, help me! I don't think i'll ever overcome my shyness, as it's always been quite extreme, like years ago, i'd have to get my parents/friends to go to the till and pay for the products i'd bought, because i couldn't stand the thought of being face to face with someone, it would just make me anxious

I've learnt to deal with that now, so it isn't a big problem. I hate being the centre of attention too (as i'm sure many people on here are!) and i tend to get paranoid a lot, especially around slow cars which drive up towards me

.
So yeah, i'll give the techniques a go, will do anything to atleast help me a little bit within social situations!
