Exactly. I see P2P as a means to an end. Read a review or get curious from a friend's recommendation, d/l with Bittorrent, enjoy, savor, buy the original (if possible). That's how I listened to Twoism, although I think I had to find it using Napster or WinMX as torrenting wasn't widespread back then. Ahh, good times.Neccy60 wrote: I fully support and encourage the use of BitTorrent as a means of getting music one wouldn't be able to afford or otherwise listen to. Geogaddi ranked #30 - Pitchfork's top albums of the decade

I use recommendations from friends or places like here, and from reading reviews from places like Pitchfork. Sure a few of them are beyond pretentious, but most reviews seem fairly sane and of this planet. Something you can't really say for The Wire which I bought last month.
I'll see you when the sun sets east, don't forget me.

I still use it occasionally, but I try to justify this by buying whatever I can when I have the moneyNeccy60 wrote:I fully support and encourage the use of BitTorrent as a means of getting music one wouldn't be able to afford or otherwise listen to. I do quite like Pitchfork though.. pretentious indie geeks or not, they've managed to get me into some really good music, particularly Animal Collective, Panda bear, no age, deerhunter, new pornographers, stars of the lid, Cat power.. strangely nothing electronic or dance i've heard of from there has really done much for me.

guys the entire POINT of pitchfork is so that they COULD be pretentious about this music. read allmusic.com's review of any album. then read pitchfork's. Pitchforks's reviews are opinionated an snobbish and obviously these writers wouldnt have had a chance to get this shit published anywhere else. hence the creation of PITCHFORK.
all of us here are pretentious wing-wongs when it comes to BoC anyway, and so are they, and they are proud of it! The ranked fucking CONFIELD the number 11 album of 2001. the fact that it is even on there is saying something. They arent trying to be this chill, nice, happy music publication. it's a publication by MUSIC SNOBS for MUSIC SNOBS their reviews are super opinionated and they write WHATEVER they want. there's no use in getting worked up about it if they bash your favorite band. and at least getogaddi is ON the list.
/end rant

The Onion!!!
I suppose you could attempt to meticulously describe every tone and sound in completely objective way - tone, pitch, length, timbre, attack, fade, volume - and then at the end, "you might like it. or maybe not."Numerator wrote:how can you have a music review website without being opinionated anyway?
