NO! that wouldn't work, he has to use deception, without you even knowing it. it is his JOB to remove free will from human beings, as free will is the gift of God. so sublminal messaging is one of the ways he does this. think about it. you aren't able to consciously choose or think for yourself when you submit to subliminal ideas. because you dont even know about them. this is how Satan works.

now, weather or not BOC uses them, I don't know. As a devout Christian, sometimes I question this, and the cultish numerology, and the use of porno. they are getting more and more sketchy in my opinion, and I am debating myself if I should throw my albums out (and NO i would not feel good about giving them away/ selling them on ebay if i believe they are the works of evildoing).

i actually first came across BOC when "A beautiful Place Out in the Country" was played at my church retreat. it was unlike any Christian music I had heard, so I was immediately drawn to it. i found at later that they weren't Christian, and since then it has gotten harder to feel good about listening to them.

you all will probably rue me for this, but I'm just trying to help. just really think about what you're subjecting you're mind to. and dont think that you always in your life will be able to have conscious control over your fate. it doesnt sound fair but a good man can be damned to hell if the powers of evil overcome him. i guess the safest is to not even expose yourself to that possibility.

i can respect your views as long as you can respect mine. and my view is that boards of canada are not in league with satan, or evil, or anything like that whatsoever.

just as long as you don't go using the whole "well if you disagree with me you are being brainwashed" cause that's a REALLY idiotic, cowardly and pointless debate tactic. because of his use of that, i won't even dignify the other guy with a response.

boards of canada are spiritual without conforming to a specific religion as i am, i just can't agree on the (fact?) that there is one god and only one. not even the religious people can decide on that, i just seek to expand my horizons and personally learn as much about the universe as i can, i think there's something else to it all, but i haven't decided what that is yet (a very tough answer to find)

first off:
i think steamrunner and the whirl are one and the same.

secondly:
just what are boards of canada controlling us to do anyway ?

i haven't killed anyone in the name of satan lately, or sacrificed any virgins upon the alter
i built in my back yard while listening to dawn chorus (yet).

what is it that we are being brainwashed into ?
are there any kids shooting up high schools blaming geogaddi ?
are any cults commiting mass suicide while pete stands alone ?
are rabid fans storming into government offices demanding that acid memories be released ?

if you claim to be a christian and your spirit is so weak that boc is forcing you to join satan then something is wrong with you, not us, you.

so burn your cds, stickers, and lp's and leave us alone.
we love the music and the mystery and that's all there is to it.

This is just getting ridiculous. The Whirl, don't let this push you away from the incredible music they create. I don't agree with you, but I have more respect for you than the idiot that started this thread. This is exactly what Boc wanted to do when they released this video...question everything. I can almost guarantee they're just taking the piss with all this satanic stuff. IT'S A FUCKING JOKE PEOPLE! They've said this themselves in previous interviews. Let's get back to what's important here, cause at the end of the day it's about MUSIC, not being brainwashed.

 Haha, great post tvsr.

thanks for being respectful of my opinions

to answer tvsr, i would argue that they are brainwashing you into the desensitization of evil themes. maybe they aren't doing it intentionally, but i dont belive one's intentions matter when it comes to pure evil, which is an entity of its own. they might be unknowingly channeling evil even though they're taking the piss. like the avatar above, 666. the mark of the beast isn't a joke. you may think to yourself, right whatever, where is this beast. well the beast, like i said, will work any way possible into making you feel like you have control over everything, morally. it is the destruction of the concience, the root of right and wrong. desensitazation to evil themes (this includes watching the glorification of murder on television, ie sopranos) is one way in which the concience is chipped away. if your conscience is destroyed you still have a sense that you know right from wrong even though it isn't the same as before. murderers have no conscience but they deem it "right" in their minds. therefore if you thought what you did when you murdered someone is morally acceptable, it is no excuse universally because unfortunately evil won the battle for your soul.

okay now step back for a second because i know that sounds like really crazy fire and brimstone whimsical good v. evil stuff. but i DO believe that there are two realities we live in, the one we perceive with our senses, and the one we don't. and i believe that the one we find so easy to ignore matters a whole lot.

this is all my opinion, it is also my nature not to judge people. i just want to throw that out there, that maybe Satan shouldn't be taken so lightly. he's out there and he's powerful and the more you let your guard down the more you might be veering down the wrong path.

of course i'm not saying that listening to BOC is going to make killers out of us, but it's just one more factor in the thousands of thousands of tugs and pulls one way or the other on your soul. I'd rather choose something to listen to less questionable. i wish i could further indulge in this genre with music so potentially beautiful, but i must say when i go to message boards and try to learn more about IDM and the people that listen to it/ make it, it really seems, across the board, an anti-Christian genre

-collin

p.s. i should add that i am not steamrunner though i can understand what he's saying in some ways

i think your wrong in saying that idm is an anti-christian genre. there are christians who make idm. and remember, only about 1/10th of the world population professes to be 'christian' , much less commited/ born-again (btw what the difference between the two?). i myself have strong beliefs, but dont feel that you could compare BoC to say.. slayer or venom, different genre, i know. what you listen to is a personal choice. and if you dont like listening to it, please dont. but i do also ask you to not start preaching around saying BoC are satanists or something. some christians have a funny habit of declaring something evil without doing your research properly. and myself having a born again preacher for a father, i am 50/50 on whether or not the christians are being brainwashed with some issues too! no offence to you, the whirl, in anything ive said in this post.

I'm an atheist myself and i'm glad that BoC are no christians! When i read your words here it's clear to me your a religious fanatic and i don't have any respect for that. Christianity is responsible for lot's of suffering throughout the history of humankind, if their is a satan it's them. :x

hexagon - a born again is someone who has lived their life for themselves without acknowledging Christ as their savior. then one day they have some sort of spiritual epiphany and choose to take Christ in their life. this is the "rebirth" for them, as in they are starting their life over because (according to our faith) God is willing to wipe the slate clean and start over any time anyone wants to accept Christ in their lives. so the difference between a commited and a born again could mean that the commited Christian never strayed far enough from his faith to make him feel like he had to have a rebirth so to speak. often times someone who is really commited, though, will feel like at one point in his life he had no faith (even if he was raised Christian and went to church every Sunday), so a lot of times every strong Christian at some point in their life feels like they were born again in a renewal of faith based on some sort of powerful event.

but yes, i really hope i didnt come across preachy about BOC being evil or whatever. I'm sorry if i did. what i mean to say it, i myself have doubts, and those were the reasons why. i'm just acknowledging the possibility that they could unknowingly be channeling some dark energy. i also agree that some are more susceptable to messages like that, and i think i am one of those people.

i can understand where you're coming from about Christains seeming brainwashed. i cant argue with that, some of us willingly want to live a sheltered life to avoid being exposed to everything bad that's out there, and it's hard not to sound like a silly robot who cant think for himself when you dont have any experience. and it sounds really bad when they go out and get preachy, like you said. I myself am trying to find the right balance for myself. and I definitely dont want to preach about it. though i do have interest in sharing my ideas, just putting them out on the table for debate.

do you really know any Christians that make IDM? if so i would really really like to hear some of that . . .

thanks

exit - your response is pretty typical of what i see all over messageboards. i really think it's unfair, too. but what can i do, this is the notion that people have created for the Christian faith, the real fanatics who feel it is their responsibility to force their faith down other's throats. i'm no fanatic, not in the sense that you are thinking of. misinterpreted Christianity and abused authority in the name Christianity is responsbile for a lot of suffering but i do not believe you can find anything harmful about the real message behind it.

This thread has provoked me to de-lurk and enter in my two cents as I thoroughly enjoy any conversation regarding religion.

I just have to say that I find it quite appropriate and very ironic, that whirl heard "a beautiful place..." while at a Christian retreat being that Christianity is one of the biggest religious cults ever. Secondly, people are looking into this music way too deeply. I have yet to hear of anyone provoked into any wrong doing simply by listening to BoC.

However, being raised Christian and being Christened as a child, I learned how corrupt organized religion really is and when I could actually think for myself, I stop going to church. Now, I am very spiritual but if I said this to a religious nut, I'd get the same response "YOUR GOING TO ROT IN HELL YOU HEATHEN" But seeing as I dont believe in hell, I cannot go there. I have no problem with people who want to be religious and while I feel it is simply a crutch that enables people who have no will power of their own to accomplish things and simply put it in God's hands, whatever makes people happy is fine by me. But that blind faith aspect really irks me...and also the fact that religious people are ALWAYS looking for something sacreligious in anything.

Anyways, this was just a rant of a first post, hopefully I'll be able to contribute more in the future.

If you wan't to preach about your faith do it somewhere else, it's not a church here. I'm glad that atleast in my country christianity has no power anymore, empty churches that means that finally people realise it's all a hoax like it always has been. 8)

Have you ever thought about this?.....there's no such thing as Satan. Where's your proof? A book that was written thousands of years ago that holds up to nothing in these days and times. Until I see Lucifer in the flesh, he's just a made up character to me. 666, the number of the beast, etc...is almost laughable to me. It's bullshit.

The Whirl, nothing anyone writes here is going to make you keep listening to Boc. You're either going to, or you are'nt. It's that simple, but if you don't listen you're going to be missing out on a lot of good music. So you're welcome to be a part of our community and discuss music with us, but please stop with the religious stuff. Like ExitEuXa said, this is'nt a church and frankly I don't wannna hear about it anymore.

You know its funny because if you have the chance to engage any seriously devout person, the conversation becomes an all out laugh riot. People recite only what rhetoric is spewed to them by their priests/pastor/whatever and not what is actually found in the bible, or at least the original bible. The book has been edited so many times over the past thousands of years that the book cannot be taken seriously. Parts have been taken out purely to align itself better with certain religious sects and likewise parts have been added. The bible is NOT "God's word" like so many say but rather a book of personal opinions and beliefs. Not one word was written by "God" or "Jesus" but by those who (for the sake of this conversation exist) where there to witness the events that are written down. There are so many flaws in the book and in organized religion that its almost ridiculous. For people who are suppose to be all loving, compassionate people, they sure as hell can be down right ignorant and self-righteous. I've gotten into so many arguments and the points that always shut down the religious people are as follows. One, in the beginning of the book we are told that God created ALL men in his likeness, correct? Yes, they reply. Ok, well how do you feel about gay's? "They are heretics and are going against God's will and will pay for their sins" Ok, well didn't God created gay people? Obviously he did but they argue that its a choice to be gay. HAHAHAHAHAH Trust me, you're born gay, theres no 16 year old kid in his room thinking "well people already make fun of me for my looks and my actions and girls really dont seem to like me, so why don't i invite even more hatred into my life and turn gay? COME ON. This just proves that the bible is a collection of interpretations and beliefs and not decreed so by "God" Also, like my old friend Bill Hicks would say "What about dinosaurs?" If the bible covers everything, where the fuck are dinosaurs?! You think it would come up somewhere! But alas, have no fear, religion has an answer. Because we all know how inaccurate and deceitful science is, the bones of dinosaurs are not real but were put on this earth to fool the non-believers. (I've actually been told that) Wow, I didn't know God had nothing better to do with his time then fool the people he created and loves so dearly. So there you go, science is wrong!

Ha, second post and another religious rant.

how ironic that steamrunner and the whirl display what they claim to bemoan.

if anything, BoC have just demonstrated that the two of you have been conditioned to react with fear and repulsion to arbitrary number combinations and the most basic fact of life.

who's brainwashed?
