Ha I thought you knew all this time.. I hope you enjoy. These are great pedals both. If I had to pick one I'd of course take the el cap for its greater versatility. But the zvex lofi junkie is great too. I like the gain it adds to stuff just running it through the pedal.

I don't have that many pedals because I have such great effects in the rack with the eventides but there are a few out there that I feel really add something. Strymon's blue sky and el cap are favorites, lofi junkie, Hartman flanger, and liquid sunshine decay, and a few overdriven/fuzz distortion pedals are great. The eventides don't do distortion or overdrive well. I'm an effects junkie to almost the same degree as I am a synth junkie.

One time I came across someone selling a Grundig TK-5 and he said the pitch was not consistent. The seller was overseas so it was very expensive. This could be another way to find a machine with the sound, but it costs a lot more and you might waste a lot of money.

Check this out beautiful stuff really. I just hope like vinyl, tape is a medium that doesn't disappear. I'm rather heart sick when I hear things like polaroid has quit making its film. The death of physical media troubles me for all the pain in the ass it can be relative to digital technology. Its really no wonder there is a resurgence and interest in destructive, decaying, quality loss of certain film and tape.

So as a consequence of the above post, I have been doing more research on reel to reels, which I do on occasion. And in a fit of frustration went about trying to see what I could do with my signal chain as it is at the moment which is a combination of analog and digital but are all solid state.

I started of with a soft synth on purpose to see how much I could get out of altering the general sound of being digital ITB through a combination of my preamp, ebbe und flut, and eventide h8000. My preamp is an A designs pacifica which is fairly transparent and opens the sound up a bit more, it isn't known for coloration. Then I ran this through the ebbe und flut on bypass and recorded it. The recording I ran through different settings on the eventide h8000. (I may try this again when I get my Juno 60 for contrast between soft synth and poly analog synth although the weakness here is my soundcard which is echo audiofire)

Anyway Here it is. All essential settings are noted in the comments field, there is however some tweaking of some of the presets during the recording which I didn't note primarily on the 16mm projector setting.


It has some good potential I still want a Nagra IV however though I'll settle for an Akai 1700.

Wow, thanks again for sharing this. I did not know of this Bibio recording.

What is the name of the device with the presets you are naming in the comments?

I think the Akai tube 1/4 is going to have more coloration than the Nagra and be much more affordable. I picked up and Akai 1710W (yes same model as Bibio's) from Ebay a couple weeks ago for $100, fully working! So happy.

Did you get a DCB interface for your new Juno 60?

It's the eventide H8000.

I didn't get the interface for the Juno 60 because I'm pretty sure I'm going to add the Minerva mod with Midi and have it recapped. The sliders are a bit sticky so I think its in good shape but needs a tad bit of TLC.

I had not heard of the Minerva upgrade. I just read the thread on Gearslutz. Sounds pretty cool. I don't know if I'll get one yet.

that's all I can remember off the top of my head. a lot of makers are now adding the warble feature in pedals to mimic the sound of older tape in a real tape delay... the el capistan is good at this. but nothing is as good as the real thing.

and if you know your stuff (sounds like some of you do), you can create all manner of time-based effects (reverb, chorusing, flanging etc) with your delays.

on sound alone, the fulltone is my delay of choice.

really? I haven't heard it. I'll have to check it out. I don't have a huge variety of delays just the el cap, re-201 and ibanez202. Other than the eventides.. but for digital I'm pretty well covered with both of those.

and do you put one into the effects loop of the other to get two seconds of analog delay?
