I didn’t particularly grow up on that music, I always heard Michelle shocked in my house, she was one of my mother’s favourite artists along with Neil young and Elvis Costello, but now I listen to a lot of singer/songwriter, indie, new wave, electronica, psych & prog rock.
Some artists like Grace Jones, Tom waits & the flaming lips have won over my CD player over the years for top spot in album heaven.

I got to see the Flaming Lips live a few years back and it was one of the best shows of my life. Mind-blowing (especially tripping like I was).

Pointed me towards Michael Jackson and the awesome music of the 80's.

Eventually years later I would migrate to Com Truise and then discover Boards of Canada. And since BoC my musical taste has been all over the place.

Alright I was actually able to dig up the complete setlist, even though it was back in 2010.

I find these musical journeys fascinating. My dad is a big music fan and there were some albums/ artists that I remember being on a lot around the house - Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, Bob Marley, the Beach Boys 20 Golden Greats, Hendrix, Cream... I remember being fascinated by his records from a young age - especially the silver sleeve of Cream's Wheels of Fire & the cut out rainbow artwork of the 2nd Curved Air album (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Al ... Air_album)). My mother wasn't has into music, but had a real love of pop - ABBA, Motown, disco, early Elton John. Hearing my dad's Hendrix records I think planted a seed of loving odd, more out there music - there was a live album where one track was just a wall of feedback and noise as the amps were smashed - which sounded incredibly thrilling ("is THIS music?!"), and the D Side of Electric Ladyland, with the long, floating psychedelic tracks like 1983...

Then pre-teen me heard (what I now know to be) acid house and grunge around the same time - again both of which offered the promise of something intangible and exciting. Then along came indie rock and Britpop - by this time I'm a young teen and the music I'm into is also influencing who my friends are, what I wear and my haircut . Next discovery was trip-hop/ downtempo stuff like Portishead, Massive Attack, BoC, Air and stuff like Mo Wax records and big beat.... this then fed into an obsession with hip hop in my late teens. I think from then I've been into anything and everything!

My parents listened to a lot of Instrumental stuff during car rides like; Paul Hardcastle, Joe Sample, and Fourplay. This music had a big impact on my taste in music today.

The two main sources of music I remember from childhood were my Dad's record player and the tape player in our car (when we finally got one!)
Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, the theme from Shaft, lots of classical, Leadbelly, Stephane Grappelli, Clannad, Fairport Convention are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. Not a bad mix.
Pretty sure a big influence on my later love of post-rock and ambient were my Dad's Sky records.
Though I can still remember, clear as day, the moment that really got me interested in post-rock/instrumental/ambient music, probably my brother's album -

i think ghibli movie music (especially totoro) influenced mine, other than that the soundtrack to godzilla 1985 (or return of godzilla) and video game music (sonic, megaman, this old gamera snes game) really did alot for me, wish id heard some of the music i found when i was older when i was younger like jean jacques perrey.

Documentary background music & some more electronic rock music are obvious inspirations in my music.

For me it has to be the Ulysses 31 soundtrack. It's some of the greatest TV music I've ever heard, as well as the show itself being a lovely take on greek mythology. Just fabulous. This track in particular.

Denny Crockett is a fantastic musician. I just wish there was more of his work out there.
