I had many obsessions with all kinds of things because I'm addicted to being obsessed with stuff, sometime even entering a near-manic state. Currently it's Grouper for me. I've had periods when I would only listen to Grouper and read interviews all day, watching her favorite movies and dreaming about her nearly every night. In March of this year I saw Mirrorring live, and shortly prior to the gig I was getting a beer at the bar and I saw her just standing there.. I was like ZOMG.. So I asked I could make a photograph of the two of us and so we did.. I was far too anxious and shy to talk to her, maybe next time..

I'm not at all a stalker by the way, it's just that getting completely caught up by something is drugs to me. I respect everyone's privacy very much.

Far too many to name, but currently I'm properly obsessed with Fugazi.

Embarassingly enough, I had a thing for Deadmau5 when I was 12. Not so much anymore. Right now it's Aphex Twin and Squarepusher.

I did not know about that. It's intriguing.

I wasn't particularly interested in the partially reformed PWEI, but they really were peaking during/ after Dos Dedos before the split imo. Some of the bonus tracks on the Two Fingers 2nd disc were original tracks which were truly inspiring for me.

Depeche Mode, The Smiths, New Order, The The, The Cure (stopped after Disintegration), Husker Du, Cocteau Twins (+ most '80s 4AD), My Bloody Valentine, AR Kane, Loop, Kitchens Of Distinction, Stereolab, The Verve (up until Urban Hymns), Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Mogwai, Broadcast, BoC, Sigur Ros, Ulrich Schnauss, SotL...

I think to truly justify a full-on artist obsession they have to produce b-sides and EPs at least to the quality of their albums. I've also dropped bands after a year or so of obsession - Ride, for example, who went shite after an album and a handful of EPs. I should probably have included Aphex and Autechre, but I'm very selective about which parts of their back catalogue I like.

Dos Dedos is definitely one of their best and yeah, that 2nd disc was ace. Looking forward to hearing this unreleased stuff seeing as it was that era. My friend works with Rich March and Fuzz Townshend, been trying to track down one of the old Pepsi logo t-shirts but don't think that's gonna happen.

And the DJ Gilles Peterson, not an obsession as such, but he is quite frankly my favourite DJ of all time. Nobody comes close to this guy when it comes to selections, the man does it all - soul/funk/jazz/latin/electronica/ - he's the best at diggin out those undiscovered gems, old jazz records from the 60s that still sound incredible today.

My obsessions with bands mostly only extends to buying most of their albums and listening to them exclusively for up to months on end.
I don't really go for searching out rare tracks or collecting different versions of albums etc. - for example, I'm not really too bothered about downloading early unreleased BOC tracks. I'm not exactly sure why this is, but I seem to become obsessed with a band when something they've released chimes with something happening in my life at that moment and so anything outside that coincidence of circumstances doesn't hugely appeal.
I also don't tend to find myself particularly interested in the band themselves as personalities, unless, again, something they have said, done or created appeals to me at that point in my life.
For example, probably my biggest band obsession is Talk Talk because I found them at a time in my life when I wanted change, to do something new with my life, something with more integrity and was becoming increasingly disillusioned with the world around me. Their music seemed to encapsulate that, while the story of Mark Hollis' effective withdrawal from the music business at the peak of his powers, to live a 'normal' life, fascinated me.
Most of my recent obsessions revolve loosely around this idea of integrity, or a craving for real beauty and depth in music, I think to counteract what I see as an increasingly ugly and shallow world.
My first obsession was, as an angry young man, The Manic Street Preachers, who are still the best live act I've witnessed, then, in my twenties, Spiritualized, Mogwai, Tindersticks, Sigur Ros and Low, before, in the last 5-10 years, playing to death the aforementioned Talk Talk, Stars of the Lid, BOC, Epic45 and pretty much anything interesting, pastoral or ambient and beautiful.
I still love them all, some more than others, with some it's just the music, with others it's also their story, outlook or creative process that appeals. However it doesn't look like obsessing over music is something I'll stop any time soon and I hope I never do.

Holy Flip I've a major overlap with this list, you must be about the same age as me. From the 80s list I would add Felt, ACR and 23 Skidoo and subtract Depeche Mode but otherwise about the same. The Kitchens have a new album coming out soon in case you didn't know. Current massive obsession is with The Necks.
