Just got back from Moogfest. I saw Squarepusher, Orbital, Nas, GZA, Santigold, and Shpongle. It was so much fucking fun.

He played the same thing at Moogfest, I lost it when he went into Journey To Reedham. Kick ass show.

i caught him in nyc during the first ufabulum tour. in that instance, he only played ufabulum. so when he picked up the bass last night in boston i flipped out. then when he came back on stage WITHOUT the mask, and blasted into journey to reedham i basically lost my mind. i'm still reeling from the awesomness of last night.

Spiritualized last night were predictably incredible. Sounding HUGE and better than last time I saw them. Set very heavy with the new album, which sounded great. 2 brand new tunes (1 lovely 60s-style poppy tune, 1 feedback-laden 2-chord blues noise-fest) and a few oldies including a noisy psychedelic Smiles and Spacemen 3's Come Down Easy for the encore.

Went with my Dad (Papa_Northern_Soul ?) and I think it blew his mind a bit :)

I also ate a gram of REALLY potent mushrooms and was tripping way harder than I thought I would... it certainly enhanced the show and the show in turn enhanced the trip significantly. i also saw primus in 3d last month. i was happy they started the set with their song american life. that was awesome!!

it was cool to see them play so close to my house. it was also cool they had an intermission halfway through the set, which was just enough time to leave and have a toke, and make it back in time for the second half of the show.

In which case, I shall use this medium as therapy - a form of catharsis if you will. For this is a tale of drama, comedy, high-jinx and, frankly, not a little tragedy. Get the kettle on, settle down and be thankful you avoided the horror that was Deaf Centre in London on November 2nd 2012.

Firstly, I should be clear on this - Deaf Centre were wonderful. Beautiful, delicate, intimate, and not a little eerie. But that only tells part of the story. Context is everything...

I'd given myself plenty of time. Too much time frankly, leaving home at the ridculous time of 2:25pm, to cover the 90mins(ish) drive up to IanRedpoint's abode, and then another 90mins to get across London to the gig itself. Doors were 7:30pm. Frankly, the only problem I foresaw was that we'd be hanging around beforehand, but no problem, we'd find a pub....

How naive was I? Somewhere up the M3, fate played it's hand. An Audi had ploughed into another city-slickers penis-extension and suddenly, the motorway closed, the air ambulance had to land on the road itself and I was caught in a 10 mile tailback which, had it moved any slower, would have gone back wards. 2 hours later I was still 20-odd miles away from picking Ian up.

Finally collected Mr Redpoint around 6:30pm - fours hours after leaving home! But no problem we thought. Doors are 7.30pm. Support act first, probably around 8pm, Deaf Centre not likely onstage until around 9pm, we thought. I mean, that's how gigs work, right?

Landed up at the venue around 8:15pm , a stunning post-modern, glass-fronted building next door to the Guardian offices near Kings Cross. Wandered in, collected our tickets and headed in. We're immediately accosted by an official who looks at us like we've just been caught with our hands in the Queen's knicker drawer. Something is clearly wrong...

'You do realise we started at 7:30pm? There's only 15 minutes left!'

Not good. What, no support acts?!?! No time to ponder, in we go.

We're led to seats with Deaf Centre clearly already well into their set.

We sit down.

We get (literally) 45 seconds (Ian thinks it was more like 60 seconds, but then he got to sit down before me, he could be right) of the wonderful 'Time Spent'. Erik Skodvin gently sits with his guitar laid across his lap while Otto Totlan plays the gentle refrain.

They finish.

They stand up and bow and walk off stage.

The lights go up.

We took longer taking our coats off than we did watching the show.

Bugger.....
