I wish we could swap the mainstream music with the 70's mainstream and keep the underground scene as it it. The "development" of the mainstream music is not impressing me at ALL. Kids had this in the 70's!!! : 8)

As long as you keep disco out of the picture.

The reason there's an underground "scene" anyways is because big name music companies only want to promote mindless pop/rap and generic rock that appeals to the lowest common denominator for the sake of earning the most money.

Some parts of disco music was not crap. Mainstream maybe but funky disco etc were and are good for me. For instance : . And italo disco ( though started late 70's) is just pure awesomeness like Koto ( ), Ken Lazslo ( ), Proxyon, Hipnosis and others..

And Stark Reality is liquid platinum for my ears. Buy/get the Now-album which is a repress compilation of their songs by Stones Throw. Love it!

Just stating my personal opinion. I'm aware of their history and the supposed plagiarism by Leary but I don't care, because I don't feel Hicks is even remotely funny or interesting while I nearly had some heart attacks induced by laugher when I discovered Leary last summer.

Everyone's welcome to their opinion, but I challenge you to watch this and retain yours: The best aspects of comedians aren't always their jokes...

Exactly. Hicks (and Carlin for that matter) were almost more common day philosophers/social theorists than they were comedians. They took very serious ideas and made them accessible through comedy. They weren't fucking around talking about race and how bad sex is with their wife - they headed straight for the heart of the matter.
