i have the feeling that when the black box changes on the website. the entire website will have a makeover. and all the links that used to be there, like photos etc. will all be replaced with new pictures and artwork.

i imagine this next album sounding completely different than anything else they've released. the guys are much older now. and i am sure there musical tastes have changed over the years. plus they have seen so many other artists trying to imitate their sound. i just cant picture them putting out an album that sounds anything like their previous work.

I just have a feeling it'l be my favorite album of theirs. Idk but my brain has decided that a new album, if there is one, will be absolutely epic.

The prospect of their producing an album that feels right to them above 'something that sounds quintessentially BOC' will be extremely interesting if their taste or approach to music has changed at all.

To hear something in the familiar Geogaddi or TCH styles we perhaps may have come to expect would be instantly comforting, but it might be equally great if the album's sound were to come right out of left field, exploring another aspect - unexpected yet as well-written as one might expect. If I were a gambling man I'd wager it might be a blend of both -- but I'm not!

I'm open to the possibilities... I don't necessarily want the album to sound like one of their previous, I don't expect it to sound like anything in particular, you know - when it's ready, let's see what lovely tunes they've got to hit us with. If the tunes are good, it's pretty much mission accomplished.

i hope that their next release will have more of a simple background, unlike geogaddi or the headphase. something without layers and layers of sound on the tracks. like if boc were to go back to their "roots" if you will.

Maybe the black box could be changed at any time but there's something from the fanbase that is required for this to happen.

Just some speculation...after all, that's what this thread is supposed to be.

I look forward to epic qualities on the next LP. and hopefully another video.

perhaps they're preparing a double album with two opposite themes. a sort of yin-yang relation if you will.

I found this Andre 3000 quote to be worthy of this thread...

GQ: You're a perfectionist. Would you change anything about any of your songs?
Andre 3000: I couldn't. I really couldn't change anything. As an artist you can sit and tinker with stuff forever. You can add and take away but I think that's kind of the importance of having someone over you saying, "We need this, this is a deadline." Sometimes those oppositions or those who push and pull are needed because we'll just sit and tinker forever. There are actually songs on The Love Below that were not finished, but that's how they are, that's how it came out.

...and look how that album turned out?

Word of advice to Marcus and Michael

"Art is never finished, only abandoned"

Leonardo DaVinci could have tinkered forever with a million things, but at some point, just toss it out and start obsessing on the next album ;)

Good quotes above. I don't know if it's still the case since Smile has now actually come out as a solo album, but legend had/has it that Brian Wilson spent the 70s/80s/90s/00s with Smile master tapes set up to mixing desk, constantly tinkering....

Can you apply agile methodologies to an album? That'd stop the tinkering. Get me on board as the PM, i'd have a finished record in 6 months

I would love to third it, fourth it and even fifth it.. but I don't think they're ever coming out with one. I think the black box means they've hung it up. July will be over in no time. Next thing we know it is October, and still radio silence. Christmas whizzes by and we enter 2013 with no changes in BOC's discography.

Sigh..I wish I'm wrong.

Just as a reminder, they've been posting myspace status updates on and off since at least 2009 that say 'In The Studio'.

I highly doubt they would authorize such postings if that weren't actually the case.

Either they've run into un-forseen difficulties with producing an album(s) and have yet to sort that out or they're in the process of working on/finishing it.

No artist would go about, albeit quietly, reassuring their fans that they are making something new if all this time they were through. That to me is illogical and useless.

I imagine they are in the process of making it, if you consider the reply on facebook and the comment that Warp have no idea when it's going to be released. As much as you can speculate at the moment I guess.

tempted to wear my more-well-worn boc shirt, write "ARE DEAD?!!?" underneath it and push to front row to try to get a laugh

zombie makeup for additional effect
