All i'm wondering now is why do they hire someone to make visuals while they've been saying in interviews that they've been recording and editing videos all these years themselves ?
Good question. I would rather see what they have recorded/edited than this Neil Krug stuff. Not really that impressed, seems a little 2nd year college project type of stuff.

The Arial shots are amazing . However i totally agree, this is just running around with a super 8 camera not overly impressive . I'll be honest I was also disappointed when the dayvan cowboy video came out too as that was just Stock footage from artbeats . The task of truly matching BOC's sound to visuals is a daunting task maybe even impossible . I think this is one of the main reasons they have yet to have a proper tour .

Agreed, I loved the visuals.

yea its kind of like their first time to step out of their 'keep it in the family' approach to the artwork but also using relatively unknown photographers/artists. i've mixed feelings about them using Neil Krug, the commercial aspect, ok he's not that well known yet but he's getting his work onto many recent records these days so that unique aspect becomes lost on BOC imo. yea he's good at what he does, its the pro approach to try your hand at instagram.

Hey, sure! ___i would have if you could have paid for my bullet train fare. I have a HD camcorder. I was talking to my wife about going. I'm so glad I didn't spend $500 and a day off work to do so. I live in Japan. You have no idea how expensive travel and living costs are here. I struggle every month to survive. Why didn't you fly out to Tokyo to film this 4 minute event? Was it money or your job that prohibited you from doing so.

no second year art student makes stuff of this level. you may want to critique it but its just inaccurate analog.

I really appreciate the video and like the crowd shots at the end to set the scene and make me feel like I was there watching it with the crowds.

I think the video is pretty nice. I don't mind that they worked with an "outsider" - the leadup to the release has been an amazing experience, and they've really been able to go the extra mile pushing it thanks to Warp. If one of the considerations for the campaign was Warp saying they would put up the money to make it happen, but the director had to be someone specific, I could see them going along with that, as long as they knew and respected Krug's other work.

While I've thought that what visuals we've seen from them in the past have evoked that BoC feel, I'd say their greatest strength will always be their music. I get the idea that whatever they do in the visual realm is more for their own enjoyment.

I think Krug is a perfect choice. I can't imagine anyone choosing a director for the vid other than Macus or Michael themselves. The Cosecha Signal One vid is gorgeous. The colours are so vivid. As for the content of this new vid being Krug 'just running around with a super 8 camera'.... I don't what to say to that...
We're you expecting a plot, some special effects, dancers?

Yep, when it turns sideways reminded me of the 2001 A Space Odyssey stargate sequence
This. Did anyone else notice the National Geographic-esque square that pops up during this scene too? Reminds me of the monolith. I felt so much bliss and so peaceful when this whole scene started. New album is going to be incredible.
I noticed that (which looks like a rectangle) but my mind instantly thought that it was referencing a 'magic window.'

Im not saying it doesn't look cool . The home movie look is part of the BOC universe . I just think they could have shot maybe something like this on super 8 at 60fps maybe have everyone with no face ... break new ground in the visual department ya know .

I still think the Arial shots are fucking amazing though .

Better sound quality..this guy was closer to the screen, so the crowd noise is attenuated..

I like the videos ok. I can't really complain. Neil Krug is good at his thing. My favorite has been the album announcement video though, the one with the static. This new song though...I am foaming at the mouth wanting to hear a high quality version.

I love that atleast 3 or 4 times I've gotten to wake up my friend on the west coast with a "get the fuck out of bed, new boards of canada!" text. And of course she jumps out of bed. Then we use a lot of exclaimation points. Everyone needs a friend like that.

As for the people though, the kind of post apocalyptic future themes that this album seems to be pointing to, would there be any people left to film?
