I saw "Into the Wild" on Saturday and I thought it was really good.. all of the actors played the characters so well, I don't know if that makes sense but what ev. Also, the score was amazing, thanks to Eddie Vedder!!!

That one is indeed a beast! Have you ever noticed how long some of the shots are? If not, watch for it, they will go a long time without any cuts!

totally, that really blew me away. It makes you feel so involved, exactly like you ARE clive owen, walking through those situations. not to mention the fact that it means all those big action sequences must have been done in a single take! pretty impressive.


I'm actually reading the book right now- all I can say is it's VERY different- characters behave differently, different message, pretty radically different plot. Right now I prefer the film, which is unusual. book adaptations usually suck imo.

Jim Jarmusch's "Night On Earth" - it's an older film ('91) but has been really hard to find.

I saw a Chilean movie called Machuca the other day. Talks about the 1973 coup, but through the eyes of 2 friends, one being rich and one being poor. Really boggles your mind on the debate of Socialism and Capitalism.

Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl. It was pretty sad. This girl in China is sent down to the grasslands to live with a guy who raises horses. She realizes she's been forgotten, and begins to use her body as a means to secure the proper credentials to return home. Depressing. The band Xiu Xiu was named after it.

I thought Lars and the Real Girl was really good, too. I didn't know anything about it before I went to see it so it was like.. oh my, this is different! But I thought it was.. endearing, how the whole town did that for him. And, the movie took place in Wisconsin! Also, I noticed the whole theater was full of old people when we went! I thought it was so strange!

It is a fascinating movie! The first 15 minutes are somewhat slow, but once "Part I" about religion kicks in, you will be glued to the screen.

apologies if anyone has already posted this one but i saw this movie by mike leigh a few weeks ago called 'naked' starring david thewlis. one of the best films ive ever seen, certainly the most underrated.

if anyone's into the orb, theres a track on their 1997 album 'orblivion' called 's.a.l.t' which samples a big chunk of dialogue from the film. best dialogue in any film ive ever seen, i strongly recomend this to anyone who can find it.

Finally saw Darjeeling Limited. Great movie. Love Wes' style. Very cool. The DVD also comes with Hotel Chevalier.

Powaqqatsi! Though not as perfect as Koyaanisqatsi, it's still an obvious masterpiece which works on so many levels.

The Science of Sleep by Michel Gondry..I really really liked it, it was cute and funny and just overall cool and original..I want to see Be Kind Rewind but it's probably not coming to the theatre here

I also saw Stranger Than Fiction the other day...it was pretty cool, dispite the fact its so...hollywood'ish

I've been enjoying Hayao Miyazaki's films as of late, particularly My Neighbour Totoro, Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke.
