just another one, I'm a huge Floyd fan. But man, I HATE the Wall. My mates all love it. Hate the movie too with a passion. Watched it once tripping which prob made me hate it more lol.

It's possible the section of the Coldplay track you liked was actually "Light through the veins" by Jon Hopkins who co-produced the album with Eno. Jon Hopkins is good. Coldplay, as you say, are very far from good.

Apart from the occasional funky bass riff here and there everything these guys have done just annoys me.

I've already mentioned elsewhere here that I find her music very very bland.

Metallica
Perhaps we're just living in times when their sound is no longer relevant or interesting. I'm mentioning them though because in Bulgaria they are still one of the most popular and loved bands ever, and even some of my friends have tried subjecting me to lengthy Metallica listening sessions. No, thanks.

Nightwish
Again a massively popular band in my country. And I hate them with a passion! Symphonic metal, booooooring riffs, opera vocals, pretentious epic-ness... I just can't stand this! Irritating as fuck! I want them removed from space-time!!!

Like I said in the metal thread, they WERE groundbreaking for their time. If they stopped being a band in 1989, they would have 4 very impressive albums which were actually very well crafted and important land marks in the history of that genre. There is a fine line to be drawn with that band. 80s - actually really good. 90s and onwards, awful.

most metal, the only metal band I can really stand is Boris, and it's probably because of the more bluesier riffs they put into their stuff.

Spot on. Seems silly to say this now because of what they became, but for a long while Metallica were the darlings of the UNDERGROUND metal scene. For a long time they refused to do videos to promote their work, at a time when that was probably even more important than it is today and it wasn't until their fifth album that they really became Spinal Zeppelin.

It's difficult to relate to Metal when so much of it is terrible, more so when you consider how close minded a lot of the fan bases are. But when it works and strives for some kind of vision or originality, it can be a really incredible genre. My metal days are truly behind me, but I still appreciate it as much as any other art form.

It's not that I don't get him, it's more...let me see, that I don't like him, and I don't get why other people do.

Because metal applies to a fuck ton of bands and music... I just don't think it's right to put down an entire genre of music. There is more than likely something good in every genre. Even country. But you have to wade through the shit produced in LA and the real music made deep in the pines in Canada or some other place.

But back to Metallica- they were good as an 80s metal band but I can't really listen to any of their music it all seems so damned corny to me lol.

Yeah I agree. I have to admit a lot of metal I've heard doesn't interest me but yeah at the same time I can't write off an entire genre.

Well I'm pretty open minded I think, but there are genres I don't get full stop. That's not neccessarilly saying I think they're crap, it's more saying I don't get why they're so popular or whatever.

I can say with 100% certainty, that my mother doesn't get 100% of metal music, and that includes the all the stuff she's never heard. Is that a generalisation, or is it just a fact?

Well it's still a generalization by definition but it makes more sense because it's in the context of a generation gap. Older people would be more inclined to hate on that type of music especially because it's much more foreign to them. But I wouldn't really blame the person for this it's more a result of culture and tradition. It was the same thing with psychedelic music in the 60s and Blues in 40s and on and on.

Without wanting to be pedantic, it's not really a generalisation by definition.

Yeah I guess so. I still think that it's a broad term and saying I don't get all of it might be a step too far because there's so much out there. I'm just projecting my personal opinion about music in general.
