Well I've made it to the front page, but anything else I click to is giving me an error. There's this -
This is the official my bloody valentine website and online shop.
The new album is available to buy now.
The album is available in three formats:
180 gram vinyl + CD + digital download of your choice
CD + digital download of your choice
digital download of your choice
The digital download will be available in the following file types:
16bit 44.1 K WAV file (cd quality)
320kbps MP3
24bit 96 K WAV file
The price of the digital download only is the same regardless of the file quality and size.
The vinyl has been recorded, mixed and mastered in analogue. It is manufactured on 180 gram vinyl and comes in a gatefold sleeve with the CD in a card wallet. The vinyl will be limited due to manufacturing restrictions.
The CD comes in a gatefold card sleeve.
The vinyl and CD artwork is currently being finished and each format will have slightly different but similar artwork to the download artwork that will be attached to your download (pictured in main pack-shot on right of screen).

I'm conflicted because that's clearly the best value but I don't even have a record player. $22 for just a CD is quite for a single disc but I do want to support them because the album is sounding great.

sounds exactly like something they could have done 2-3 years after Loveless.
I'm all for reliving the 90's but when you're a band whose heyday WAS the 90's it's not exactly promising that you can't move on from a sound on a record released about 20 years after.

I hear your argument, but just how often does an artist/band successfully and innovatively take a new direction twenty years after the fact of the vision that they are known for? I'm not saying that it doesn't happen but that it's exceedingly rare when it does. For me I'm happy that there are plenty of new ideas on this record rather than it being an attempted retread. In another way there are so many people who have been waiting for that "2-3 years" later creation for the last two decades.
I like this take on the release -
The urge, I think, is to attempt to frame this album with respect to The-Album-Whose-Name-Must-Not-Be-Uttered!, as though this effort is better or worse or just different and without consideration of the polyamorous interplay between all three criteria of critique, but that'd be a disservice to both the band and its fans. This is an important record simply because it was released. This record is Kevin Shields, somehow, through what seemed to be so much goddamned duress, persevering beyond the mythos of his apparent opus and actually finding the will to create something new.
Can we applaud that, can we applaud the ridiculousness of having successfully overcome one's ego in the pursuit of art? My first dozen or so listens to this record will probably be informed by the desire to do just that.

Didn't he say this was the album that was supposed to come out a few years after Loveless but never did? I'm sure a lot of these tracks were written in the mid 90s and just received a polish.

Best thing I've heard in ages.
The sound may have moved on a lot since the last record, but that's excusable when said last record has been peerless in the twenty years since it's release. In a way, I think I might have been a little disappointed if it had shifted too much in style anyway.
@polar: yup I think a lot of these tracks were abandoned half finished tracks that had been started soon after loveless.

I liked the new album quite a bit, honestly. With Loveless, I was never really into it. As a band, the record doesn't really change my mind about them, but it's something I'd like to have in my collection. The album was full of really interesting melodies and chord changes, which is something I really like in music. I think the thing that keeps me form My Bloody Valentine is the guitars. Thick layers of fuzzy guitars bother me for some reason. Nonetheless, MBV is a great record.

For me it sounds like it could have come out right after Loveless....until the last 3 tracks. Track 7 has a distinct Drum and Bass feel to it, 8 has a bit of a Sepultura sound that Kevin Sheilds was also into at the time. And the last track combines the 2 sounds and they sound like they are being sucked through a massive vaccum cleaner. Mindblowing!

yeah nah this album is completely forgettable.
It's like Shields decided to make Loveless again but it's worse in every single aspect.

To say it's
worse than Loveless, is to suggest that Loveless was bad.
Which is wrong obviously.
So I'm sure you mean it's not quite as good, which is fine.
