Just to answer the query why Japan releases get bonus materials : I remember reading a long time ago that I'm sure it was down to Japanese law on import albums, there had to be something extra on the release otherwise no go on putting your album out over there, could be wrong though. In my experience there has always been *something* different or extra about Japan released versions of albums

IIRC it has something to do with the cost of music over there. I remember reading that it was often cheaper to import a US/European version of an album instead of buying the localized version, so record labels started adding bonus tracks as an incentive for people to buy the Japanese versions.
