Okay I think I'm ready to make another unfounded suggestion

You said there aren't any tracks that sound like they're from Hooper Bay - but I wonder about Audiotrack 12B? I say this because
1. It sounds potentially the most like something from their known releases - specifically Hi Scores. In fact I think the opening note of Hi Scores was almost directly taken from this. Hooper Bay was the last of their myth status albums, released in 1994, two years before Hi Scores - so it's likely the tracks would be more refined and sound closer to their early commercial releases. The quote I referred to before suggests it's from catalog 3 but I highly doubt the duo had achieved their trademark sound or produced something of that quality at that point.
2. Hooper Bay had a track called Geiser. Listen to the way 12B is structured. Doesn't it sounds like a geyser? It sounds like a geyser, right? The stop / start rumbling bassy synth sounds reminiscent of a jet of water going off followed by a pause. I'm being a bit absurd, aren't I?

On another note I'm starting to consider that audiotrack 06A could well be 5D from Closes vol. 1. It seems to be commonly referred to that and Boards' themselves have the track with that title in their youtube playlist. The feel of the track is so ethereal and otherworldly that it would make sense if it was meant to evoke the feeling of another dimension, what 5D is.

At this point I think any of the tracks could well be snippets of named album tracks. Probably every tracks that fades out was originally longer, at least I have to assume they were. It's unusual for BoC to use a fade in their tracks in the first place and all of the fade-outs are the same on the r35tt - usually awkwardly implemented crossfades into the next track for the sake of a compilation.

My money is on 4A being "Numerator" from Play by Numbers. It's a nice, simple guitar and drums based track that flirts with shoegaze textures without fully becoming 'shoegaze'. It also seems like a logical progression from a track that I would assume would be epic, "Infinite Lines of Colorful Sevens" which is over nine minutes. The track lengths fit too - only ten seconds shorter than "Numerator"

Only vaguely related to the topic but today I noticed that "It's a whole nother year" is a quote from Star Wars: A New Hope when my flatmate made me sit through it.
It is from a scene where they talk about the harvest.

Oh, so you did already imply that on page 1. I guess we think alike. It's a reasonable enough assumption.

Honestly, I know a lot of these claims are wild and assume a lot, but it's just a bit of fun. A bit too much fun actually. For me, the appeal is - as much as anything - just making claims in anticipation of the albums some day being released, so that I can look back on these guesses and see how accurate I (and everyone else) really was!

I can see 12B as belonging to the Twoism era. It has that dark crunchy otherness to it.

It's funny that you if you look at a lot of the lengthier tracks that are prefaced with something from side A, almost all of them are either 3:00 or 3:30...it's obvious that they aren't complete pieces of music. I still wonder if the idea behind only using the best parts of these tracks was stolen by the Sandisons for the methodology behind TH, where some of the songs almost cut off as they're really getting started! That NY Times interview makes me feel like they are trolling the hell out of us and I love it!

Glad to hear it - much better that than them coming across like the scrawled notes of a man who's lost his mind (I don't doubt I'll reach that point eventually if BoC continue to tease mind you)

I'm always checking back here and wherever I can for updates on the status of the legendary BOC albums but sadly nothing much ever seems to change!

Anyone know why Catalog 3 and Acid Memories were removed from BoC's Discogs page, while Closes 1, Hooper Bay and Play By Numbers were left untouched? (decided to ask here instead of starting a new thread)

I'm guessing this is just routine cleanup and that the others will also be deleted soon. Also Acid Memories is till up, it just doesn't display on the main artist page. It popped up on the recommendations for one of the other early releases. The artist and label fields take you back to the Boards of Canada and Music70 pages,yet Acid Memories is nowhere on either. Odd.

I originally had the thought they could have been removed due to the band saying once they didn't adopt the name Boards of Canada up until 1994, but then this wouldn't justify why Closes 1 (from 1992) was left-out. (unless, b.o.c. was originally different from Boards of Canada...)
