I download WAVs then drop them into iTunes. Select them all as a group. File>Convert to Apple Lossless.

Delete the WAVs from iTunes, but keep the original downloaded WAVs for backup.

In iTunes, Select all the Apple Lossless files that you created and edit the tags to your liking + add artwork.

This gives you a tagged lossless file to use on your computer and portable devices. Entire process probably takes 5 min.
+1 If you use iTunes that's best solution.

But first you need to set the preset to Apple Lossless (Preferences, General, Import settings).
Then you select all the tracks and choose Apple Lossless from the Advanced menu.

Is the download from Bleep just a one-time thing? If it isn't, I don't see much reason to keep a local backup.

Just ditch iTunes. Your lives will improve immeasurably and the sun will shine.

I don't find it a probably situation what Bleep would be down at a time I have an acute need for 24-bit recordings ;). And even better solution would be to convert them in the original 24-bit depth, ALAC supports that right?

Sorry, I mean when a store goes out of business. I don't see any chance of that w/ Bleep.
But still it's easier to keep a backup.
Maybe I'm a bit paranoid (once I've lost a huge part of my digital life...).

Just talking about a general routine. On Bleep you can redownload, but on Beatport you can't.

When I go out, as far as digital file playback is concerned, I have an iPod and my car stereo has a USB port so I can use a thumb drive. Also the CD player can read an mp3-formatted disc which is useful at times. But none of these things support flac files! Do you all just have non-iPod MP3 players?
Me personally, my home setup is a server upstairs, connected via ethernet to a HTPC in my tv cabinet running XBMC, in turn connected via HDMI to my stereo. FLAC is my preferred format!

Edit: and on the move, I use my smartphone instead of a dedicated mp3 player, but when I had an iPod it was Rockboxed and played FLACs fine..

Your download can also expire. It happened to me in Boomkat (though it took a year, or even two, didn't follow).

Calvin wrote:yeah i call bullshit on anyone in this thread that says they can hear a difference between V0 mp3 and FLAC / Wav / Lossless while PORTABLE. i already call BS on just being able to tell a difference in general, but CERTAINLY NOT while portable.

my point was that from wav you can get to any format you want
from flac you can get to any format you want

so there's no need to download both
COSIGN.

It's a placebo effect whilst fully portable.. Connected at home this is a different story.

Wow, I still don't know what your home setup is. Too many acronyms to make sense of it. I guess I'm technologically stunted. Ah, okay some smartphones play flacs. That makes sense.

Not an audiophile (so forgive me), but would MP3s converted from FLAC sound better than MP3's burn from the CD (still waiting for mine to arrive)?

Appreciate any input from the audio experts.

i recommend VLC as a FLAC player. works smoothly.

i like itunes personally, it's organized and if you have an apple music player it's perfect. also the itunes tomorrow's harvest sounds no different the wavs from bleep.

question: when a CD is burned onto the computer the files are 16bitwavs not mp3's, yes?

It depends how you rip it. In Windows Media Player you need to set your 'rip settings' quality to WAV 1411k beforehand. If you've never touched the rip-settings before its default is probably 320kps mp3.
