When I was editing the video, I can confirm that the audio of the initial explosion and "When lava pours out near the sea surface, tremendous volcanic explosions occur" matches 1/1 between the documentary and Dandelion (this was evident before stripping the documentary audio, which was initially phasing but I managed to cue it together to achieve a perfect match). I wasn't paying quite so much attention on the other parts as I was cutting footage a little differently, but where speech samples are used, the video is matched as accurately to source as possible, with the exception of the final sequence of underwater lava flow (where the initial audio sample is repeated in Dandelion).

I've collected Dive to the Edge of Creation amongst a bunch of other old nat geo films on VHS but it's from a bit of a crappy master compared to the rips from NTSC tapes I've seen (that or either my tape or player has shit washed out colours). Also it's a bit faster for some reason so Leslie Nielsen's voice is a tad bit higher pitched.

Even that looks cool. I did take a look at the quality of the film stock real quick and it looks nice.
My plan is to dupe it in 4K sometime in the future. (Yes, I have the kit for that...)

If you still have this, I'd absolutely love to see a transfer of this if you have the time and equipment still. These old national geographic films really are great and it's a crying shame that national geographic haven't digitised them.
