both have circulated before (albeit not in original form as seen here) and neither is new. "V2" just circulated more widely than "V1"

In case it helps, and this is based on my subjective comparative listening, I prefer this one, which is the one called V1.

I prefer it because:

1) the tape noise seems lower in the mix compared to V2.
2) it's so much more detailed than anything available previous to this version, and those details seem to pop in V1 more. Genuinely astounding how many more little details I notice in this, some of them I had to go back and compare to the original rips because I could've sworn I was hearing things that were not there before.

Again, this is all to my ears. The value in having the different versions is really from an archival standpoint.

Is there any info if both V1 and V2 are sourced from the same physical tape?

And if the same person created both rips in 2000/01? (maybe on different tape decks?)

I also want to reiterate something I've shared elsewhere at this point.

This is coming from someone who has not yet listened to Inferno, so I can't spoil anything (and I might be missing crucial evidence):

We have now gotten high quality rips of the four leaked tapes--OT1, OT2, BOC Maxima, and R35TT--all within a handful of months of each other and right before the release of Inferno. "Tape 05" was attached to the first audio teased from the new album.

I really feel that Inferno is intended thematically to merge both lines of BOC material--4 leaked tapes, 4 mainline albums--in one piece, a fifth album and a fifth tape as one.

Look at the fact that some of these old tapes include Hell Interface material. And the new album is literally called Inferno. I'm getting the feeling there's a grand, internally-consistent arc here.

  P(one rip lands in the window) ≈ 0.33 / 25 ≈ 1.3%

If the four rips were independent events (each tape rediscovered separately by unrelated people):

• P(all four land in the window) ≈ 0.013⁴ ≈ 3 × 10⁻⁸, or about 1 in 33 million

Having been to one of the listening sessions, this was my initial thought. What I heard was an incredibly mature album that encompasses and expands upon the sounds across their career.

We rest our case: the four HQ rips are an orchestrated event intended both to build up to and highlight the thematic full circle-ness of Inferno, bringing all the previous BOC canon into one masterful effort!
