I'm not gay or transgender - so I figure a lot of the sentiment is probably lost on me. That's my problem - not his - but I feel like the EP is often skating this thin line between being moving and being intolerably corny.

Track #3 may be a grower - but to be honest if I didn't already love Burial I would have dismissed him had this been my first exposure.

c'mon dude, don't be a shit, let people have their own thoughts, it ain't illegal. Don't go calling out people like that, not that there's anything wrong with being trans or gay of course.

I mean I think the EP may be on par with Untrue (one of my all time favourite records) as Burial's best piece of work, .. and I just broke down and started crying when the last half of Come Down to Us started.

Whoops.

It seems like Burial is just incapable of disappointing me. All of his music creates little stories in my heads with settings and imagery, and this new release does just that. So many interesting sounds...
You're gonna carry that weight.

Crazy how on day one this EP made me cringe and LOL all over the duration: the 80ies break in 'Hiders', the record scratch in 'Come Down To Us'. About 5 listens later I am getting piloerection response hardcore! This is resonating with me in a huge way! Burial is a magician...

I listened it to yesterday and I didn't thought it was as bad as the first listen... I have yet to listen through headphones to decide if I like it or not.

I was the same way. After three listens or so it completely won me over. I'm still not over it.

Definitely agree with that. I was listening alone on the first listen and I had to do a double take to make sure that I was actually listening to Burial. I'm completely enamored with this EP right now. Along with Tomorrow's Harvest and various others (In Bloom from Dpat to name one), this is year has been fantastic for music.
Don't be afraid to persist...

These tracks are g o r g e o u s .

I don't find anything corny if it seems to be coming from a place of sincerity.

Burial has escaped an easy pigeon-holing, as an artist who emerged with an already fully-formed sound.

His output has defied convention, not only in content, but also in format (Track lengths, EPs vs. LPs), frequency of release, and now, subject matter (engaging with LBGTQ themes).

I love this EP. Love it.

I could see him including some of that cheese for select moments on a full LP and it could have this "sun bursting through the clouds" kind of effect if you know what I mean.

yeah I didn't want to say because I thought I'd get shouted down, but I don't think the melodies are "cheesier" or more "melodramatic" than stuff like Raver on Untrue.

“I put my heart into the new EP, I hope someone likes it. I wanted the tunes to be anti-bullying tunes that could maybe help someone to believe in themselves, to not be afraid, and to not give up, and to know that someone out there cares and is looking out for them. So it's like an angel's spell to protect them against the unkind people, the dark times, and the self-doubts.”
I love this guy.

That's really cool, fair play. Still not keen on the music though.

Just got around to hearing it for the first time

Absolutely loved it but will probably need another 5 or 6 listens to fully appreciate it

The first section of Come Down To Us is truly spectacular - If there is a more beautiful track this year I have yet to hear it

Burial is a true maverick
